readyornot Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 They are my last school to hear from - has anyone heard a peep from UPenn Fels yet?
Nda25 Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 They said they will notify applicants by email on march 15..
readyornot Posted March 8, 2012 Author Posted March 8, 2012 Their site says they will notify by March 15th, not on March 15th. All of the other schools have said the same thing and tend to be notifying earlier. Just wondered if anyone else had heard anything is all...
AndreaAce Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 In the Official Admitted Thread there is someone who received a call from Fels today. Does anyone else has been admitted? I'm freaking out
readyornot Posted March 13, 2012 Author Posted March 13, 2012 I got a voicemail today saying they had "good news" but couldn't pick up because I was at work..
readyornot Posted March 14, 2012 Author Posted March 14, 2012 That good news was an acceptance! Supposedly will get info by the end of the week on financing...
Ace001 Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 I visited Fels couple of weeks back - they said decisions will be released on 15th March...
GC Addict Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 (edited) Has anyone heard back from fels today? Didn't they say they will release all decisions today? Edited March 15, 2012 by GC Addict
AndreaAce Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 I was rejected yesterday. I think a couple of people got acceptance calls early this week.
GC Addict Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 @ AndreaAce - were you rejected via e-mail ? Was it a personalized e-mail or did it look like it was a mass e-mail sent to all rejectees. I haven't heard anything from them. I wish they would just tell me - one way or other.
rdr06001 Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 I received my acceptance call earlier in the week. David said they'd be sending out emails on Thursday and Friday.
AndreaAce Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 I was via e-mail. It was personalized (just my name). It said that the applications had gone up 42% this year, I don't know if it just something they tell rejects to make them (us) feel better or if it is true. Since it is such a small class (30 I think) I imagine they called all admitted students early this week (I could be wrong). After I heard about the calls I was kind of expecting the rejection mail.
readyornot Posted March 15, 2012 Author Posted March 15, 2012 I got an email from Penn today regarding financial aid. They offered a small stipend ($8k/year). Did anyone else hear about funding from them yet?
rdr06001 Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 Yes, I also received 8k. I'm pretty happy, but with full rides from USC and LBJ I have a tough decision to make. Do you know if the 8k is renewable for the 2nd year?
GC Addict Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 (edited) I,too, got that $8,000 scholarship. Isn't their tuition per year around $40,000 ? So what's the concensus-- is that much debt worth it for the "ivy league" name? @AndreaAce - thanks for the reply. Edited March 16, 2012 by GC Addict
rdr06001 Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 I,too, got that $8,000 scholarship. Isn't their tuition per year around $40,000 ? So what's the concensus-- is that much debt worth it for the "ivy league" name? If I'm reading their site correctly, it's around 20,000 plus housing and living expenses. Can anyone confirm? I really like the class size, practical approach, proximity to DC and NYC, and the Ivy League thing certainly doesn't hurt - although it was the only Ivy I applied to, so maybe deep down I don't really care about status. I've been weighing it against my other offers and I just don't know if I can justify it.
GC Addict Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 It says "2010-2011 Academic Year Costs Per Semester, measured by CUs (course units)" http://www.fels.upenn.edu/financial-aid-0
MPAprospect12 Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 The degree requires that you take 12 courses, each course is $5235 (including the general fee) so if you multiply that out, it comes out to about $62,820. Then you have to add in health insurance if you don't have it, which is an additional $1500...
readyornot Posted March 16, 2012 Author Posted March 16, 2012 There are only 12 classes in this degree right? I don't see on their site how students usually break down their schedules - does anyone have any insight on this? 3 courses a semester, leaving more time for a job/internship? Or 3 semesters? Can't believe I don't remember this from the research process, but can't find my notes...
MPAprospect12 Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 Yes, exactly. 3 courses for 4 semesters or 4 courses for 3 semester. They leave space for internships and stuff with the 3 course option.
CourtneyJ8 Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 I got an email from Penn today regarding financial aid. They offered a small stipend ($8k/year). Did anyone else hear about funding from them yet? Thanks for posting. I, too, am wondering about whether this is renewable for the second year of full-time study. My letter said my award was "for study as a full-time student in the 2012-2013 academic year" - but no mention of whether that would be renewable for 2013-2014. Did anyone get funding for multiple years?
mtny Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 Thanks for posting. I, too, am wondering about whether this is renewable for the second year of full-time study. My letter said my award was "for study as a full-time student in the 2012-2013 academic year" - but no mention of whether that would be renewable for 2013-2014. Did anyone get funding for multiple years? I emailed admissions and they replied that the 8k scholarship is renewable for the second year if you are in good academic standing. Is anyone else considering taking out loans for this program? It's about 40k more (including housing) than my cheapest option, which is an assistantship with SUNY Albany Rockefeller College. I'm on the fence about whether the UPenn name/opportunity is worth 40k more in loans than a SUNY, especially if the SUNY program is ranked much higher.
