Anyone Hear From the LBJ School?

I received an email with my acceptance at about 10:30 this morning so as predicted, they have started cranking them out again.

Golonghorns, I am rooting for you, but I don't know what to tell you in terms of calling or emailing. I might give it until tomorrow since it does seem like they are letting them trickle out, but then again, I don't know how it would hurt to call and ask. Good luck! Let us know when you hear!

rejected

I'm so sorry, golonghorns. Really. That is quite a shock. Applications really must have been up this year. The good news is that you have other acceptances, though.

It's not easy to get rejected from your top choice, though. I still get a bad feeling in my stomach thinking about Berkeley.

Thank you policy applicant, you are very kind...and all others for your condolences.

Here is what happened:

I hadn't heard Friday or today, so I emailed the admissions coordinator politely asking about my status. She replies: she hopes to begin final status notifications NEXT WEEK....and I can check my status online for any status updates.

ummmmm yeah. we all know final status notifications actually started last week on Friday! Then on top of it, I PMed some of the admits and they told me the same admin coordinator I emailed was in fact the one who emailed them their acceptance.

So, it doesn't take a genius to figure out what that means. If I had gotten in, she would have said "oh I was just about to email you...congratulations" or something of that sort. I guess acceptances are this week and rejections are next week.

I really really reallllllllllllyyyy wanted UT because all other schools I applied to are private and I just don't see it wise to go $80k in debt for a govt job especially in this economy. I haven't got funding at any of the others, yet at least. Oh well, I guess I am going to end up in Washington.

Just got in to the MGPS program! Funding info will come in a few weeks via snail mail, they say. I applied to LBJ as part of a dual degree program with the Lozano Long Institute of Latin American Studies. I wonder if this means I'm in there too? Would they accept people at one school and not the other?

To those of you that have received news (especially those who are in the MGPS), when did you submit your application? I would assume that the administrators are reviewing the applications in the order in which they were received. I'm freaking out here.

C_Dunn - I submitted the online application in October, my LORS were in by mid December, but my personal statement wasn't sent until the morning of Jan. 5th. Hope that helps and I wish you the best of luck!

I submitted mine on the 5th as well. No news yet of financial aid/fellowships...

Yeah, I got a letter in the mail yesterday basically just telling me I was accepted ( I was notified via e-mail on the 13th.) There was one letter from UT and then one letter from the LBJ school. There was no mention of fellowships or any mention that another letter would be coming soon if I had received one. I'm wondering if that was the letter that would have mentioned fellowships if I had received one. Any thoughts?

Basically, they offered me $16,500 in loans. Woo! Oh, wait...

Yeah, I just checked mine and it's pretty much the same. I don't know if fellowships would show up on there though, since that is just the financial aid through UT. I think the fellowships would actually come through LBJ and might not show up on the fin aid page right away. Did you receive a letter in the mail like I mentioned in my previous post? Anybody out there hear about fellowships??

Ok, nevermind, I looked again, and both pages in the envelope were just from UT in general. Looking at my acceptance e-mail again, it says this:

"Within the next few weeks, you will receive official letters of admission from both The University of Texas Graduate School and the LBJ School of Public Affairs. The LBJ School letter will include the terms of your admission, instructions for confirming your intent to enroll, and announcement of any fellowships you may have been awarded. "

Looks like the letter directly from the LBJ school will mention fellowships, and who knows when that might come.

Yes, I received a similar letter yesterday. Just the basic admissions letter. I should call them to see if that's the final word or if fellowship awards may still be in our future.

EDIT: So, sef802, you think we should wait for the official letter before jumping to conclusions about the fellowship? Sounds good to me.

Hi, first time poster, had been kind of a lurker for a while.

I got an admissions packet today via email from Lucy Neighbors which included my fellowship information.

For the record I'm a MGPS admit, and an international student, so I'm not sure if the I-20 related notes made it come earlier via email or something else.

Hope everyone else hears back soon, too.

I got my funding package today via email too and I'm also an international student. For the record, it was an out-of-state tuition waiver and $4k a year. Very nice to receive something, but when all my other schools have offered me packages worth $20-40k I'm not sure how much it will influence my decision. Good luck to all you guys!

Same package as s800x, in-state tuition, 4k/year for fellowship.

It's pretty nice when you consider in-state tuition is about 4700/semester, vs. 9106 for out of state/international students. (So grand total it's looking at around 13-14k/year vs. non-fellowship/non-waiver.)

Ok, I got my fellowship information in the mail today. (I live in San Antonio though, so not too far to get here from Austin.) I received $12,000 for the first year and $10,000 for the second year, and I am very happy with this.

*raises hand* (and waves it wildly about)

actually to be honest, surprisingly, I have moved on from LBJ.....Washington is a much better place to be...especially at this time in history...but I am still curious as well to know who still hasn't heard/who has recently gotten in/who hasn't gotten in...

so anyone else have any updates?
