I finished my undergrad in Human Rights and Equity Studies here and now a year later I will be doing a MA in Communication and Culture - Politics and Policy. This will be part time so I can continue to work full time and volunteer. I am very excited! Already thinking about the research I will be working on! You?

I applied to PhD programs at York. I was rejected by political science and waitlisted as the top candidate by environmental studies. Most probably, the accepted student ( I know him a little bit :P) will accept the offer, indeed he deserves this, then I will reapply next year since this is my dreamed university.

wow, almost no one for York University?

Hi everyone, I'm going to York for my Master in Education this Fall 2012! Graduated from Computer Science in Venezuela more than 6 years ago, this is going to be a very interesting experience :)

I was admitted to the PhD program at the Schulich School of Management, which operates quasi-independently of York.  Does anyone have advice on whether to live near campus or commute from a nicer neighborhood in the city?  Good luck to all!

I'm sorta iffy on this too. On one hand the York Village area seems pretty nice and affordable, but it's pretty far from everything most of the city (15 minute bus ride with no stops other than the university and the northernmost station on the yellow line, and I can't imagine that bus runs 24/7). So I can imagine getting home late at night might become a bit of a chore. Day commutes are a nice time to get some work done anyway :)

I'm not too familiar with the GTA, but from Google Maps it seems like a commute into downtown Toronto takes about an hour via public transit.  Do you plan to live in graduate housing or to live somewhere between downtown and the campus itself?  Having lived in big cities where commutes are just a part of daily life, I am not necessarily opposed to the possibility of living off campus, but there are many nights when a 5 minute walk back to the comfort of your own place sure beats a 40 minute bus ride!

Hi all,

I am a current York student. I have been commuting from downtown to York, and it takes about an hour.

The express bus to campus lhommependu mentioned isn't bad. It comes really frequently, and is relatively short because it doesn't really stop many places -- it's express to and from the station. I have done the commute for 15 months straight, and never had a problem with it. I used to read a lot during the commute.

Another option is to live in midtown - half way between York and downtown. So around St. Clair West, for example.

I have never lived in the village, but it is notorious for crime problems (mainly assaults, break-ins). Safety has definitely been a huge concern on campus during my time there.
