fondizzle Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 Hi, Is there any way we could start a google doc now? Even though we haven't yet begun to hear results, it would be nice to know how many others from this group applied for each grant in each country. Not sure if we need to use a pre-existing doc but if not, I would be happy to start one myself for people to input info. Just a thought. Hi! Have you started one yet? I was working on creating one last week, but I forgot to post about it. There are past google link somewhere on these forum posts. I'll have to find one again. I'll post the google doc asap!
fondizzle Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 (edited) ok, so I just created an email for this years applicants to send in their information for the tracking spreadsheet. Fulbright2013.2014@gmail.com Please send in your info to that address and as soon as I hear from last years administrator I will start adding it all. I have requested that the spreadsheet is 'shared' with this new account. I hope no one minds that I take this on! My work at the office is fairly light recently so I have a lot of down time. Thanks!! fondizzle Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 ok. i figured it all out. please start sending your information to: fulbright2013.2014@gmail.com at this point the following info is the only thing needed: First and Last Name Username (for gradcafe) At-Large or with University (this is a new one, i thought it would be helpful to see the numbers of who applied at-large or with thier university) Country of application Grant Type CLEA (applied Yes or no) Interview (yes or no) Research Topic Email Address (only if you would like to be contacted by next years applicants, or anyone else who shares your field) Host Affiliation Misc/anything you would like to add thanks again! legallyproper and Dr. Herp 2

legallyproper Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 I found it on the Fulbright website Application timeline. Apparently applicants are notified of recommendation status on January 31st. WHY?! I'll already be back in classes! I had this vision of getting my notification over winter break so that either way I could decompress before going back for Spring semester... Last year we received the email on January 20th, 2012. They put January 31st to give them a longer window in case there is any backlog in getting all of the acceptances and rejections out because not everybody receives them at once and so it could take longer. Trust me though it is mid-January!

fondizzle Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 Can I just say, I swear the Universe is sending me positive messages! I work at a medical school and came across a faculty members Letter of Acceptance for a Fulbright grant while I was filing paperwork. How freaking random is that, right??!!! Anyone else have random messages like this??
Dr. Herp Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 A very informative pdf which I'm sure many of you have seen but I only just discovered: http://us.fulbrightonline.org/uploads/files/brochure/U.S._Student_Brochure_2013-2014.pdf

Books2readme Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 (edited) It would be helpful if 2013-14 applicants would include at least the University or if they are applying At-Large. Otherwise, it's less useful for future applicants. Edited December 7, 2012 by Books2readme
ambitiousmind07 Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 Hi everyone, I was looking over my submitted application and on the "Personal Information" page where you list your emergency contact and, right below it, "dependents", I think I made a HUGE mistake. I listed my mother as an emergency contact and then when they asked about marital status and number of children, I listed my mom's information...were they asking for MY dependents? I feel like such an idiot and almost like I shot my chances. My school didn't mention anything when they reviewed my application...I just wanted to know if I was supposed to list my dependent information or my parents'? Thanks!

While it's still in the early stages, is it possible the make list sort-able by each column? Just wondering. I left that entire section blank. Did you say that dependents were accompanying you abroad? Edited December 8, 2012 by Sarhush

I think this is just an innocent mistake. I would email whoever's in charge of your Fulbright region and tell them because this could very well affect your chances of getting a scholarship. ArizonaState21 Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 I applied for a research Fulbright Grant to South Africa in October. Any other SA applicants interested in discussing/exchanging info? Please message me.
Dr. Herp Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Thanks for taking this up! While it's still in the early stages, is it possible the make list sort-able by each column? Just wondering. Any idea how to do that on google docs? Other than using list view, I've no idea
Porshyen Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 Is there anyone else here that applied to Georgia? Thank you, by the way, for creating a spreadsheet. It is interesting to look at. Although, it would seem to me that spreadsheets in the past are disproportionate in favor of acceptance. It seems that people wouldn't necessarily advertise rejection as they would acceptance. I don't know, though. Good luck to everyone!
Deweyronomy Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 I'm in my mid 30's and I noticed many countries are kind of ageist. I understand it varies with every country but I was wondering if anyone has any data regarding "older" candidates (30+) receiving the student ETA scholarship. OR if you or anyone you know who is over 30 and has received an ETA scholarship, I would love to know. It'll give me some hope. Thanks. My 1st time applying for ETA Turkey. I applied through my campus where I was given an interview.
karahead Posted December 16, 2012 Posted December 16, 2012 anyone applying to Germany want to exchange contact info?
karahead Posted December 16, 2012 Posted December 16, 2012 It would be helpful if 2013-14 applicants would include at least the University or if they are applying At-Large. Otherwise, it's less useful for future applicants. Hi, I don't think I included all of my information in my email to you. I am applying through my university (University of Kentucky).
lavoce Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 (edited) Okay, so I'm confused. I applied for a Fulbright to Germany in music (voice) and I was excited to learn mid-November that I had an audition in December. I went to the audition and it was okay, though not awesome either. Somewhere in between. They seemed to like my answers for why I wanted the Fulbright. The thing is, the website doesn't mention ANYTHING about an audition for Germany, just the other countries. It says that if you are recommended for further review after reading your application, then you will be asked to send an additional CD to Germany by December 15th and you will be notified in early December. However, no where does it say you will be auditioned first. It's a bit different because for other countries, you just have the audition, and there's no mention of sending additional materials. I haven't heard from them since the audition. I was going to email them to ask if I needed to be aware of sending anything soon if I made it past the next round, but then thought that would be presumptuous, and obviously the December 15th date has passed. Should I assume I didn't get it the Fulbright? I'm just very confused because the audition was not part of the procedure listed on the website, and I never heard about whether or not I should send additional material. I can't decide if getting the audition was my "passing" the next round or if after the audition, I did NOT pass to the next round. Also-- my original submission was more than sufficient for Germany's additional materials requirement, so I guess I'm also wondering if they just sent the CD directly themselves? instead of depending on me to do it?
