Whenever I have worked in a lab that requires its members to where lab coats, the institution always provided the coat.

Really, why spend money on something when you don't have to?

I was wondering where new students buy their lab coats. Is it issued by the school or do you buy it online? Obviously I would want to buy a new lab coat for when I start research in the summer. Do you have any suggestions about the material, etc.?

This blog seems informative: http://blog.chembark...ing-a-lab-coat/

But I wanted to know what you guys think.

What?

Just don't.

I do the safety ordering for our group, and the lab pays for all of it.

When we get new members in, we get them to pick the coat/goggles they want, and I put it in the next order of safety equipment.

Never diss Batman.

Tailor the coat.  Add a few patches.  Get some stylish safety glasses too (colored frames? lenses? mirrored!?!) so you don't look like the students at any distance.  It will be the best few dollars ever wasted.

I am also a chemistry student and was also bought a new lab coat for me and it got expensive to me. I think that, all the chemistry schools and collages are providing the lab coats. otherwise they give us to the low coast. they also provide the all safety tools that safe for us.
