psychgirl77 Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 I finally received my "application received" notice. Me too, got it today
FCP Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 i attended a workshop on sshrc. they said that for ma's historically they rewarded 95-99% of forwarded apps depending on the year, but for PhDs it was 55-65% depending on the year. Wow, if this is true I am excited. I just got an email Tuesday stating my application was sent out to "SSHRC people" for further consideration. And I am an undergrad going into grad school.
SolitudeIsNotIsolation Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Am a direct applicant from a US university. Aside from my receipt of app which I got via email on November 21st, haven't heard anything. I didn't realize we get notified abt A vs B listing so soon. Any other international students in the US or elsewhere hear anything?
bondette Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 (edited) Any SSHRC MA applicants still waiting to hear back on whether their application has been forwarded to SSHRC? I haven't heard back from UofT and getting nervous. Edited February 5, 2013 by bondette
Arrmarr Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Bondette: I'm at Carleton and have applied to the SSHRC MA grant. I haven't heard back anything yet!
clinicalpsychphd Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 I heard back from U of T today about MA results. I spoke to the award officer yesterday and she said that the results should be out by today.
bondette Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Thanks, Clinicalpsychphd. I just heard the good news today. Hope all went well for you.
rontron Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 (edited) I'm in a PhD program at Berkeley and am still waiting to hear back from SSHRC. Anybody else applying internationally hear anything yet? Edited February 6, 2013 by rontron
rontron Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 How do the funds work for Canadian PhD students at US institutions? i imagine the school still administers the grant? no, it doesn't go through the school. the school registrar has to sign a form confirming you're registered, but technically you don't even ever have to tell your department. you send a form, they send you a big cheque. biggest cheque I'll probably ever get haha.
dknows Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 no, it doesn't go through the school. the school registrar has to sign a form confirming you're registered, but technically you don't even ever have to tell your department. you send a form, they send you a big cheque. biggest cheque I'll probably ever get haha. Good to hear! Thanks so much.
raise cain Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 I heard back from U of T today about MA results. I spoke to the award officer yesterday and she said that the results should be out by today. The results whether you received SSHRC or not already?
Dal PhDer Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 The results whether you received SSHRC or not already? I am 99% confident that SSHRC results, regardless of the competition level, will be announced no earlier than April! socalgrad and RosamundReage 2
clinicalpsychphd Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 I meant whether applicants are forwarded to the agency or not. At the MA level, once you are forwarded to SSHRC it's pretty much a guarantee, I have heard. They do check for eligibility but there is no further competition for the MA award, unlike the PhD one,
Rubee Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 What happens if you are awarded a SSHRC but don't get into any grad programs? Do you just forfeit?
Nerd_For_Life Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 There is another thread going on this already. I have the same concern. My plan is, if I get a sshrc but don't get accepted to either of the schools I applied to I will contact those schools to see if they will reconsider, or if I am waitlisted if this might change where I am ranked on the waitlist. Hopefully that won't happen and I get accepted into the school I really want to get into!If you have no school to take up your sshrc at come Sept. you forfeit your sshrc.
Rubee Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 Thanks for the info, Nicolemc. Yes, hopefully this doesn't happen!!
opsshrc Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Direct applicants: any news on whether you made it to the next round (A-list)? Was about the same time last year that people started getting letters...
Fayre Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 I haven't heard anything yet, though I'm living across the pond right now so I imagine I'll be far from the first to hear.
Mister Disaster Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 I called them yesterday, and apparently they won't be contacting direct applicants with the outcomes till March. They couldn't tell me when in March specifically, just that we would have to wait longer and that the results are not ready yet. socalgrad and raise cain 2
Nerd_For_Life Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 So, happily, I no longer have to worry about the scenario where I am lucky enough to get a SSHRC but unlucky enough to not get accepted into grad school (I previously posted under the screen name NicoleMc). I got into York! Whoot!I'm hoping the delay in notifying direct applicants doesn't mean that the final award notifications are also delayed....
opsshrc Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 For Direct Applicants, I received this from SSHRC after emailing them: Good afternoon, The results letters will be mailed probably on Friday March 8, 2013. raise cain, Fayre and socalgrad 3
