MindyMSW Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 Wow, Hawaii would be an amazing place to go to school! Congratulations! Thanks! It's a bit far from home so I'm still thinking about it since I haven't heard back from anywhere else and I have to give them a decision in 3 weeks -____-

hmsw2013 Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 I went to Hunter Silberman's info session last night, we were informed that they are changing something in their online system, so they SHOULD be done sending out notifications by MAY! Not to say thatbou won't hear sooner, but that's the deal. FYI in stats- last year, they received 1,654 apps, 70-80 percent for the clinical pathway and they review every single one. Personal statement had 80% weight, followed by letters of recommendation which also have a lot of influence, followed by grades. But bare minimum GPA for consideration is 3.0, unless you have lots of social work experience and write an amazing PS plus get great letters of recommendations. They are considering doing a "live" writing sample at he interview because they have found people hat haven't written their own statements, but they are still thinking about that. That's the latest from Hunter.
hmsw2013 Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 I wonder how many applications they received this year.
MSWgradcandidate Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 I wonder how many applications they received this year. Hey there! I just got my rejection from Hunter. I'm actually relieved because I really want NYU for their clinical strength but was stressing over the potential of having to choose based on cost. Well, now that it's off the table, I'm relieved and will be attending NYU, even if I get into Fordham. Btw, I can't say that I am surprised to hear about the rejection from Hunter. Although my personal essay, etc was good enough to get me an interview, I have to say that I was the only person at that table with no actual social service experience, and the Dean of Admissions DID say at the information session, VERY CLEARLY, that she looks for social work experience, and doesn't remember the last time that they accepted anyone without experience. Reason for this is that from day one, you are put into field work that requires you to have a basic understanding of what services are available. I can't imagine that every single student has previous experience, but who knows. Have you heard back?
obesemuffins Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 Has anyone heard back from University of Minnesota? (application deadline: 1/5)

I think I heard first because they decided that I wasn't going to be accepted, so I wouldn't take it as a bad sign hit yet. Keep your hopes up and keep thinking positive!
