mrmolecularbiology Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 I made it clear that I had already booked plane tickets and agreed to an interveiw elsewhere before I ever received their invatation
JulesJules Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 Interview invite at Rockefeller! Package to follow soon.
Erbbie3 Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 Congrats, Jules! Did they email or call to notify you?
JulesJules Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 They emailed. It's weird, they say it's an interview invite but for the open house visiting weekends? Quite nervous, I was expecting they would just accept people right away.
Erbbie3 Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 It says on their application website that they are doing the whole interview process this year, so I wouldn't be nervous about it!
JulesJules Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 It says on their application website that they are doing the whole interview process this year, so I wouldn't be nervous about it! Is this just where they say that they'll send interview invites on the week of 21st? Is there something else as well? Anyway, they said there will be information in the FedEx package Thanks btw!
Erbbie3 Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 Yup, I was referring to that box on the top right of the Grad program page. Congrats again and good luck with your interviews!
JulesJules Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 Good luck to you too! Hope you get some good news from them as well
stmwap Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 Anyone else have a school blow them off after they told them they had a date conflict? I'm starting to think not going to the interveiw weekend for UW-Madison= no interview. Yes. I have this same issue. It's like, what am I supposed to do?
Looking to the horizon Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 @erbbie, you didn't get any response from Rockefeller, either?
Erbbie3 Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 @erbbie, you didn't get any response from Rockefeller, either? Not yet, but I remain optimistic!
mrmolecularbiology Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 Yes. I have this same issue. It's like, what am I supposed to do? UW-Madison just emailed me back. They are willing to schedule me for an alternative weekend so long as I am willing to pay for my own airline tickets. Testing my commitment perhaps? It's worth the price for me as long as they do not try to schedule me for another weekend I already have booked.
Erbbie3 Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 That's awesome, mrmolbio! Are they paying for a hotel/letting you stay with a current student?

I think I'd probably reject any school that wouldn't reimburse me for the airline ticket, particularly if they're paying for everyone else. It would leave a really bad, silvery-medal taste in my mouth.

If there is this much trouble before you even get there...If it's not my first choice I'd think I'd say thanks, but no thanks.
mrmolecularbiology Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 That's awesome, mrmolbio! Are they paying for a hotel/letting you stay with a current student? They are gonna cover hotel/food. Just got to find a way to get there.

If there is this much trouble before you even get there...If it's not my first choice I'd think I'd say thanks, but no thanks. I have mixed feelings about it. I want to have options and preferably multiple acceptance offers to choose from. If I got rejected post interview from the five schools I already have interviews at and I didn't go to the alternate weekend at madison I think I would regret it.
mrmolecularbiology Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 If it is your top choice, I would go for it! What if they are my third choice? If it was you would you go?
Erbbie3 Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 I would still do it. In my opinion, things are still up in the air until I get acceptances. mrmolecularbiology 1
ion_exchanger Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 I doubt that you will get rejected from five schools based on your stats. If it is your 3rd choice, and you have the financial means to fly yourself there, then go for it. mrmolecularbiology and epsilon 2

I suppose until they send me any specifics I still have time to change my mind.
