Adip Posted December 1, 2012 Posted December 1, 2012 Hello, I am master's applicant for aerospace engg, fall 2013. I completed online application for some US universities. In the application, some universities ask to write names of professor whose research best aligns with my goals. Some other universities encourage to contact profs. I know mailing prof is a good practice for PhD applicants. But, for master's study should I contact profs? Also, I am not yet admitted so talking about research may not be a good idea. Please help me in this question and share your thoughts. Thanks.
cdparker03 Posted December 1, 2012 Posted December 1, 2012 I am going through applications for PHD programs. I have contacted faculty members in some of my programs but not all. If there are some you haven't applied for yet I encourage you to reach out to those universities because I found it helpful in shaping my application, particular the Statement of purpose. They gave great advice about how to approach it and things to include. However, it is ok to contact after sending your application as well. I feel like the process is just like the working world. If a name is fresh in someone's mind the greater chance it is for you to be accepted. Remember you don't have to have all the answers - you aren't expected to be a scholar at this point. Good luck!
rising_star Posted December 1, 2012 Posted December 1, 2012 If you've already submitted your application, there's very little reason to contact professors now. damequixote and obrera 2
meow123 Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 contacting profs may be a good idea. if they really pick out your application and notice some missing things, they will let you know. that's what happened to me. my poi actually told me that my statement is missing but CV is showing up twice.
DarwinAG Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 I contacted the professors that I had encouraging interactions with to let them know. At the very leasy, youre stored in orospective memory when they go through applications. Phoenix88 1
