Hey all!

I know there might not be many of us, but I was wondering if anyone else here applied for a DAAD grant this year?  If so, do any of you know when we can expect to hear back regarding our applications?

Please and thank you!  And best of luck to you all! :)

Hey-o!

I'm hoping for a DAAD as well.  We'll hear back from them definitively sometime around last week in March or first week in April - supposedly varies year to year.  I'm my university's "priority candidate," so I'm hoping I stand a pretty good chance.  (Better than for a Fulbright, that's for sure!)

Viel Glueck!

Ach, dafür sollte ich mich bewerben. Ich war aber in Deutschland als Austauschstudent und das Fälligkeitsdatum war schnell vorbeigegangen... Ich wünsche euch auf jeden Fall viel Glück!!

Hi all,

As shibboleth12 mentioned, we won't hear until end of march, beginning of april. In previous years, however, people got to know the results in early march. Fingers crossed. Good luck!

I applied! I applied for a grant in voice. I had good recs/decent recording, and a pretty good affiliation letter, but I have no idea how competitive it is. I knew some people at my university who won it but they were practically geniuses, so I dunno how I stand. My German is just conversational (I can understand almost everything) but my actual speaking skills are kind of shitty, so I don't know how my evaluation went.

No Language Study Grant? I realize it's only just towards the end of January but...

Haven't heard anything yet. Only received word a couple of months ago that they got all of my application materials and that I could be expected to be informed about decisions around the end of March or early April. Totally nervous! Ich druecke euch die Daumen!

Yep, got the same email. Last year they sent out notifications first week of march; wonder if they'll be early this year too...

Ich dir auch!

Hanuta, that's good to hear that last year's announcement was in the first week of March. Before I found this thread, I figured it would surely be in April that we got notice. Good luck to you all. I'll be sure to post back here once I receive word.

I heard back today that I won one of the grants for an intensive language acquisition course! :) Hopefully, that means the rest of the grant categories might not be too far from returning decisions, too? Best of luck, everyone!

Congrats, that's awesome!! Through which program have you decided to do the intensive language course?

Thanks! :) I'll be at the Inter DaF Leipzig courses this summer (planning on doing two of the four-week courses back to back).  Never been to Germany, so I absolutely can't wait!

Nice! I've only been to Leipzig once, but I remember that they have animal foot prints leading up to the soon. it's quite cute :)

Has anyone contacted DAAD to see if results will be released earlier than end of March/beginning of April? Or does anyone know how many applied for a Graduate Research Grant vs. how many grants are available?

Hi Decaf,

I am in the same situation as you are. I have also apply for a Research Grant and I am totally under stress with the wait, since I cannot start anything else before knowing if i will be going to Germany or not. But i do not have a lot of Hope because of certain factors that might have a negative impact on my application. e.g, I spent over 10 years in Germany before coming back to the US. I graduated there( Diplom at the university) Despite the fact that Kim from DAAD in New York told me that I was eligible for the Grant, I still believe that the might be giving preference to those who are about to discover the german culture for the first time. I see you have apply for a grant in Philosophy. in my opinion, you should not worry because there are not many people in that field,so your chances are quiet good.

Remember: " Du kannst nur machen ,was du machen kannst, und die Ergebnisse kommen ,wie sie kommen muessen"

Keine Sorge, es wuerde schon was werden

Vielen Dank für deine Ermutigung! And I wouldn't stress too much if I were you either. Even though you spent some time in Germany already, you're not currently living there and are a US citizen (I'm assuming), so if you're eligible I don't see how they can deny you a scholarship just because you've spent lots of time in Germany. Maybe for other scholarships but the research grant even requires that your German be good etc so that might even be in your favour. Let's hope we hear back soon!

Hello all,

Am also waiting to hear back about a study scholarship. I applied for a Fulbright last year, was awarded alternate status (which was heartbreaking) and so I applied for a DAAD this year. Am hoping to do a comparative study of Medieval English and German literature at the Freie Uni Berlin. Best of luck to everyone.

I am slightly getting nervous that it's taking longer than usual (as compared to previous threads concerning DAAD fellowships for 2011, 2012) for official emails to go out. Well, it seems that RISEPro and language study notifications have gone out but research grant notifications have not.

Yeah, it seems as though most people heard back last year around the 12th or so--maybe we'll all have some news early next week!
