pete-mc Posted March 13, 2013 Author Posted March 13, 2013 But they usually send a blog post saying that notifications will start rolling. They haven't posted anything for today. To my knowledge (Matt Clemons did even comment on this) the blog gets refreshed 9am EST. So it could be possible that an update has been uploaded, but the blog won't refresh til tomorrow morning.
pete-mc Posted March 13, 2013 Author Posted March 13, 2013 Also, Dublin and Gleitsman Fellowship Finalists will be notified this Friday. Based on past cohorts, they select pretty large groups... we should see some movement then. Can you elaborate on "past cohorts" and "pretty large groups" please?

I religiously receive an email with the post at 8:03am every weekday, today is the first in a while I haven't received anything. However, it may be related to the change in DST. I'm in GMT -6, btw I'm obviously overthinking, though.

Gleitsman: http://www.centerforpublicleadership.org/images/pdf/2012_gleitsmanfellows.pdf Dubin: http://www.centerforpublicleadership.org/images/pdf/2012_dubinfellows.pdf The CPL fellowships page has profiles on other years, but last year there were collectively 24 fellows. Assuming that there are more finalists then fellows, more than 24 applicants will be notified on Friday. That is, of course, assuming the notification date on the site was accurate.
soaps Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 (edited) There is a remote possibility that some HKS applicants actually already know whether they're admitted or not. Zuckerman Fellows were notified by 8th March (last Friday) whether they're in the run or not for a fellowship. http://www.centerforpublicleadership.org/ZuckermanFellowship/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=631&Itemid=308 And applicants are only considered (for review/interview) if they're admitted at HKS. Too bad that none of them is either following this forum or willing to share the news with us. The possibility is indeed remote. The first "result" the troll posted said s/he had a full ride. Finalists haven't even been notified for fellowships as you just pointed out, and all other financial aid won't be arranged until April. The second troll post wasn't about being a finalist; it was about seeing the "new admit" tab that MPP-Tom brought up Monday. Who would be so self-assured they were admitted based on a website glitch some people saw in previous years? Let's also not forget the supposed mistake last week where someone repeatedly posted in this thread pretending they thought it was the Goldman one, only to disappear and never post their results in the appropriate thread. We are clearly dealing with a troll. Edited March 13, 2013 by soapwater

My understanding is that those booklets contain all current fellows, not the newly selected ones. If you look at the past year ones, it contains many duplicate profiles. I could be wrong, but I think if there are 24 in each of those PDFs, it means around 12 new ones are selected each year.
campussartorialist Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 What Matt Clemons meant by updates at nine is that those on the email subscriptions don't receive the email before 9am. The actual blog, however, is time-accurate. See this post last year where he explains: http://hksadmissionblog.tumblr.com/post/19302403710/mpa2-decisions

Good catch. I wonder how many applicants are selected to interview...
mrpapagorgio Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Some kind of betting system on when results will be released would at least kill some time...
biscuits Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 I have to admit that the HKS admissions experience has put a bit of a sour taste in my mouth regarding the school. Certainly HKS is a great program with excellent faculty - I'm not disputing that point. But waiting until some undefined date - in late March, no less - to release admissions decisions feels rather disrespectful to the applicants. For example, many folks will have to make last-minute flight arrangements to attend the open house, which is not going to be cheap. Add in what appears to be a very late notification of financial aid awards, and you end up with quite a tight turnaround for decision-making. HKS can get away with this because of their reputation, but as my grandmother used to say, just because you can doesn't mean you should. HKS is completely within their rights with regards to how they are conducting their admissions process. However, I've found that basic courtesy and communication go a long way in terms of building relationships and successful partnerships. There's not a whole lot of either one in the HKS process, and this sends a rather negative message to potential students. True, many MPP programs don't post exact decision dates - but a whole lot of them send out decisions in late February/early March, which provides time for planning and plotting. I could also be biased because a Harvard admissions staffer got huffy and slammed down the phone in the middle of a conversation with my partner (not a HKS staffer, but not sending a good message for Harvard in general). mrpapagorgio 1
mrpapagorgio Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 I wonder if Matt Clemons is reading this forum - I would not be at all surprised if he was? mrpapagorgio 1
egarza Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Waiting anxiously for the news. I would have preferred that the admissions committee would had set a date, but looking in retrospective, this is much better than waiting for the mailman.
JBomb Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 What do you think will happen first; new Pope or admissions email? I have a feeling they will both happen at the same time. The similarities in the decision process seem strangely similar... destine, SavannahOohNaNa, biscuits and 1 other 1 3
JBomb Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Ha!!! Just seen the news!! Oh well fingers crossed everyone!
MPPgal Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 So an idea wherever the Pope is from gets full funding....my cardinal is an idiot so I have no chance
Noway82 Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Hi Guys I applied to the Mason MPA at HKG. The wait is getting harder as I just got a job offer I have to respond to the soonest. So far no responses from any of the schools I applied to: HKG, Princeton MPP and Oxford MPP(had an interview there). I was wondering if any of other applicants to the school were selected for interviews at HKG? I also applied for the Gleitsman and Dubin Fellowships. No news of any of those yet
Noway82 Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Well Someone said candidates to these fellowships will be notified on upcoming Friday...crossing fingers!
JBomb Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Do you think the emails will come before 5pm Boston time when they do come? I'm just trying to work out in my head if someone sits and sends them out manually and would go home at 5, or if its some kind of automated thing so it they might come out right through the evening?
AUSAJAG Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Its automated and they come out in batches. April 6th is admitted students day. Given this, I'm almost certain that MPA2s will be released this afternoon or tomorrow followed by MPPs Thursday and Friday.

soaps Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Also, looks like the admins deleted the recent (fake) entries in the results database (the MPP and MPA2). I suspect they had duplicate IPs. Troll confirmed.
alf10087 Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Well, it's almost 5:00pm in Cambridge, so it looks like today's not going to be the day.
