HHEoS
I creep more than I post, but I wanted to add that I just got a decision from Ohio State (English)! No email or word on funding yet, since it rolled over in appstatus maybe 30 seconds ago. I'll be updating the results page, but this is my first notification of the season, so I'm just squeeing right now! :D :D Congrats! lisajay
i love this thread. no news may be good news, but good news is definitely better. & to climb on the "the moment when someone googles your name & comes across x" bandwagon, i submit to you: michigan politician (of "vagina" controversy fame) author & illustrator (most known for the "baby be of use" series & her marriage to lemony snicket) lawyer & white house staff secretary american actress washington state politician several photographers real estate agent song by the rankin family nursing professor hockey player &, my personal favorite, professional boxer
Swagato
Congratulations to those who are receiving good news. Incidentally, how terrible is a very basic grammatical slip toward the end of one's SOP? "The research of X and Y are..." (should be "is," obviously). practical cat
You guys... just make your tweets protected and change your avatar to something innocuous (if it's not already). Although I would proudly show off my Seinfeld quotes...I don't know about anyone else but the only reason my twitter account is my real name is because I wanted to have control over my google profile. Despite having a really uncommon name, there are two other mes out there: British Me is quite the partier and Athlete Me is quite the soccer goalie. I wanted to negate some of the damage being done by British Me's facebook page being one of the top results in google so I spent about a year pretty carefully crafting an online footprint. I actually kind of hope they search me and look at my twitter. I think it rounds me out a little bit.Congrats on the OSU acceptance! jrockford27
Congratulations to those who are receiving good news. Incidentally, how terrible is a very basic grammatical slip toward the end of one's SOP? "The research of X and Y are..." (should be "is," obviously). If it makes you feel better, I made an almost identical mistake in the final paragraph of my SOP. Luckily that version only went out to 4 of my 10 schools, but it definitely went out to my #1. It was infuriating, because it was a passage I'd decided to add after my recommenders had gone over my SOP and told me it looked great. Most people are telling me "I'm sure it wont be a big deal, don't worry about it." Doesn't stop me from worrying about it!

I do love this place. For what it is worth, I made an error on my CV (haven't brought myself to reread my SOP) that my advisor caught but that I didn't -- I entered the wrong date for a conference. That copy went to 2 schools, including OSU.
asleepawake
Congrats, Laokoon!! My Ohio State application still says "in review," but now I have something to obsessively check every 30 minutes.

asleepawake
I just googled myself for the first time in a while, and my first picture is somebody's mug shot in the same state I live in. Wonderful! She has really great hair, though, so it's fine. I have a common enough name that I doubt anyone will think I am any of them, though. For a VERY long time, I had an old myspace page with my real name and a picture of Kate Moss snorting cocaine in my "heroes" section. Things that are funny at 17 are not funny forever! Luckily, I was able to take a new picture of myself, send it to myspace, and get back into the account. It is FINALLY done! Your self-control is impressive! I've been refreshing mine every few minutes! OSU is one that I REALLY want - an amazing fit for my interests, so many people there I want to work with. I'm hoping more acceptances from them will come soon...

ghijklmn
Hey DontHate - fyi, just got rejected from Madison's Comp Lit program. However, I'm not really disappointed, as I know they're having funding problems and last year only accepted like 2 students. I didn't apply there, but I'm glad departments are sending out news. Screw Madison, it's too cold there anyways.
asleepawake
My Ohio State rejection is official on the website. They're sneaky and it just says "DECISION." I had to click "show more information on status." Then it says "Your application for admission was not approved. You will receive further information on the decision by mail." LOL. I think I understand. I do not need more information to explain.

asleepawake
Right in place of "in review." It just changed within the last hour or so since I last checked. There is an old "Ohio State" thread from last year and it seems like it took a few days/weeks for everyone to get a final decision... I wouldn't give up yet! Good luck! I've already recovered because I have an acceptance and a million more applications out there. It's okay. I checked a few times earlier today, but when it still said "In Review," I assumed there would be no more decisions until next week. Good god. Now I really want to check it, but I'm afraid. Official News From Sour-GrapesLand: Too much football in Columbus, anyway! Thanks! Hahaha I just checked it: "In Review". I'll take that as a good sign, but it's a computer system, so who the fuck knows what'll change when. And yes, Ohio State football fans can be pretty overwhelming to put up with. Now I've got to resist the urge to check the status every five minutes until I go to bed. Edited January 25, 2013 by HHEoS

asleepawake
I grew up in Cleveland so all the FOOTBALL FANS with decent grades went to Ohio State. I've heard some horror stories that make me worry I would die in a riot if I went there, anyway Edited January 25, 2013 by asleepawake TripWillis
