OISE PhD 2013 (University of Toronto)

Recommended Posts

Congrats!  I am waiting to hear from them, I applied for their Developmental Psychology and Education PhD program.  I did not get any interview, (except for one way back in October/November before I officially submitted the application), so I am thinking the outcome is not so well, but I guess I can only wait and see.  Hopefully, they will let me know soon enough, I anticipate making my decision by the end of next week.

I have a question to ask you, I will sent it in a PM.  Congrats again!! :)

Any word on Masters programs at OISE?

Hi Scholarlypartier;

News should come by post in late March. I think they only call the PhD students...

There are fewer funded MAs than PhDs at OISE. The admit pool is small: 3 or 4 this year in CSTD. But there are lots of MEd places (unfunded).

Good luck!

Hey Ms. Potts. Congratulations on your admittance first of all!

Thank you for the info, OISE was always a long shot, they told me what the odds are. I checked last year and 50 people applied, only 3-4 were let into the program I chose. I have been accepted to McGill already but it would be nice to have this option as well since the funding is so good.

They've told me via email that acceptance letters start going out early this coming week. No "unofficial" communications go out other than these mails, which is confusing as I'm hearing about people getting phone calls about their acceptance. Maybe each department is different, and perhaps only PhD's get called. I've applied to MA Counseling Psychology for Psychology Specialists.

Thank you hcoach! I am still anxiously waiting for the result from OISE phd program. hopefully will get it within this week...arrrrrgh, the waiting game is driving me crazy. UT seems to be late this year, isn't it? I'm not sure...

(this is my 3rd application to the program) I recieved the same email response as hcoach when I tried to get more info...  Doesn't look like and CP PhD applicants have heard anything and Im still not sure if everyone or anyone gets a call if they are being offered admission.. ahh i just want this over with so I can get on with my life!

They also said if you don't hear anything by the 2nd week of April then you should contact the department. I don't know what the protocol is for 'waiting lists', but I've heard they do have them, and I've also heard they hold interviews, which they denied when I inquired in an email.

Ya, I get the impression from some other posts and the results that some do get phone calls and emails.

Seems like some haven't thought, so that is keeping me hopeful (kinda)

Somewhere else someone noted that they received an offer earlier in the month, although I think that was for MA.

Hcoach - sounds like we got the same "form" response. It was noted in mine that decisions were going out "over the next week" and that was Thursday, so hopefully any day now.

I applied to the fulltime and flextime options so I hope that one of those "stick".

Chancegirl - Did you apply to CP? Any word?

If you are a current UofT student, check ROSI. I just did and it already has me listed to begin the PhD in September, with funding, although I still haven't received an official letter in the mail...

Good luck!

To Ms. Potts I am also a UofT student and just checked my ROSI like you said. It has me down as listed to begin the masters of teaching program at OISE. HOWEVER ON STATUS IT SAYS 'financially cancelled' do you know what these means?

Hi Ms. Potts! Thank you SO much for your suggestion! I applied to the M.Ed in Counselling Psych at OISE. I checked ROSI and it shows my registration for Fall 2013 with status: Invited. Does this mean I'm in?!

HI we pretty much posted at the time lol

For me it says financially cancelled as well for the current status because I was previously registered as Non-Degree when I was taking courses on a part-time basis after I graduated.

There could be more than one status listed there?

I think that all uoft students who applied to a program at uoft are listed to begin in the fall, and that it might not mean we have been accepted.

Hello Jennmaea- I applied to a different program developmental psychology and education DPE program. Nothing yet. I think we both belong to the same department APHD, but different focuses.I wonder if they have already mailed out official  letters indicating acceptance or rejection, or if they have any kind of unofficial contact with potential phd candidates. WAITING IT OUT!!! Anyone got any news? Thank you for sharing!!

Hey everyone,

I've been passively following for a couple days now. Congratulations to those who are in. I applied to CSTD and HSSSJE PhD 2013. I spoke to the department grad admission officer in CSTD who informed me that I have been recommended for the wait list (recommended to "OISE Graduate Admissions"), my odds right now are good, that the tides are changing quickly, and that I would be able to get a better sense of things early next week. I emailed grad admission officers in HSSSJE who also said that I am on the wait list but am in the middle of the pack so this seems less promising. However, HSSSJE informed me that I was recommended for the EdD program which is unfunded. The invitation for the EdD has also showed up in my ROSI account. All said and done, I recommend contacting the departments directly and asking since a lot of us have other decisions to be made based on other schools. As well, I spoke to "OISE Graduate Admissions" who said that letters can take 1-2 weeks as of today, meanwhile, both departments (CSTD and HSSSJE) have indicated that they are still grappling through the wait list into next week.

Hope this sheds some light on the process and system. All the best!

Good to know there are wait lists, I did not recieve any letter this week. Off to next week....

I'm not sure what it means to "contact the department" anymore. When I emailed gradstudy.oise I was asked to contact the department directly and was given the email of the Programs & Admissions Coordinator (AP&HD), who did not respond and instead the CP Program Assistant/Liason responded to my inquiry and again said you can contact the dept. directly if no word by 2nd week of April. So yea...confusing.

hcoach,

Here is the admissions officer for APHD

Call her and say that you have another offer from another school with a pressing response deadline and you were wondering if you could find out some info about the status of your application. If she is unable to help ask who the appropriate person in the department is and for their contact info. Good luck.

Good luck.

Thanks, just called and found out I wasn't accepted.

Good that's over with, and now I'm assured I'll be going on to do an MSc in Kine and Health Science at York :-)
