eponine997 Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Oh God, 2 weeks AFTER today? I mean, wtf. Can't schools work together and signal each other once someone accepts/rejects? I wish! Hopefully that is just the worst case scenario. I've thought countless times the ways EVERYTHING about this process could be less painful, but as a wise man told us, "blame bureaucracy" - sounds right to me
Cesare Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Rejected from another waitlist. And once again I was completely forgotten about until I sent a follow up e-mail. Good luck to those still waiting!
PoE Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 (edited) Also waiting to be accepted or rejected from the WL at a PhD program. Is it common practice (should we expect) that a program will not inform us we are rejected from the WL and just keep us wondering in perpetuity? Or does not hearing news yet mean that the WL process is still undergoing? Edited April 17, 2013 by PoE PoE 1
peternewman89 Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Anyone waiting for the result at UVA? I had been (unofficially?) waitlisted at UVA, they told me I was relatively low on their Theory list, at that point I accepted a better offer that I had in hand. Maybe a week ago I woke up to an email to check the message center saying I'd been rejected. Have you checked the online messaging center as well?

Or does not hearing news yet mean that the WL process is still undergoing? I would definitely email them to ask for a status update if you have not heard back from them yet. If I didn't do this for both of my WL, then I would still be waiting around in agony instead of licking my wounds.
Mnemonics2 Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 UVa has all ten of their places filled (11 actually since someone has government funding). From the mouth of the DGS. Unless one drops out, no go.
apareceu Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 (edited) Gee. maybe i'm 99% rejected;; To Mnemonics2, did you hear the news recently? Edited April 17, 2013 by josh1120
brandnewtothis Posted April 18, 2013 Author Posted April 18, 2013 I didn't get a reply frkm GW. Kind of scared now.
jabolcnipolz Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 I didn't get a reply frkm GW. Kind of scared now. Nothing here either, if that makes you feel any better.
USCoregonian Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 I didn't get a reply frkm GW. Kind of scared now. Are you on the waitlist for admission or funding? I've heard nothing on funding as well.
brandnewtothis Posted April 18, 2013 Author Posted April 18, 2013 I'm waitlisted for funding. I was told that there was a good chance I would get it. I hope I do...
brandnewtothis Posted April 22, 2013 Author Posted April 22, 2013 I hate sounding like a broken record, but did anyone hear back yet? Specifically, did anyone hear back from GW? When should I call? When should I give up?
ThisGuyRiteHere Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 I hate sounding like a broken record, but did anyone hear back yet?Specifically, did anyone hear back from GW?When should I call? When should I give up?Call now.If you are rejected, end your agony. If you are in, start the celebration. They may have forgotten about you (either good or bad), you would not be the first this has happened to this cycle
ThisGuyRiteHere Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 ^^Referring to funding that is, you are already in.If you do not accept your offer, defer for a year and ask to be placed at the head of the funding list for next year. But you need to call. All movement was probably done by friday. Also, remember sometimes funding does not open til summer time. I was told that what schools do now are simply percentages. If there is a large uptick in students, they may be able to afford another TA. I heard of someone getting the call at the beginning of August!
Quigley Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Anyone else just never hear from UCLA at all? Most people heard one way or another in February. When I called in March I was told I was on a wait list and never heard anything else. I assume it's a no by now, and I've long since accepted an offer at another program that I'm very happy with so it doesn't really matter, but I'm unimpressed that they couldn't at least send me the same lousy form e-mail that everyone else got.
jeudepaume Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 (edited) Hi, Quigley! I was on a wait list too, for a long time. Received an email from them at the end of March, saying that they got enough people accepting their offers and so "finalized" their admission list. From that I assume that your letter must have just got lost or something. With that said, it's still not very pleasant to never hear anything back. Anyway, congratulations on being accepted elsewhere Edited April 22, 2013 by ilovejohnralws
Quigley Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Oh, well thanks for letting me know what you heard! Given the sheer number of applications they receive I know that mistakes are bound to happen, but I feel like with the time, effort, and expense we all put into this process, a simple e-mail with an official verdict is not too much to ask.
