I hope to continue similar work at the Munch Museum/University of Oslo studying the painting materials used by Edvard Munch and how they're reacting to the environment (light, moisture, pollutants, etc). I had a chance to visit Oslo over the summer to see a Munch exhibition with my research adviser and really loved it. What is your project about? I've applied to a full research grant to Germany and have been taking German classes here, but still know just about enough German to say I can't speak German. For anyone who may know or knows of someone who would know, what's the deal with the intensive pre-Fulbright language program? Any and all info would be greatly appreciated, thanks! I applied to Mexico City to research integrating small-scale urban strategies for water treatment in informal communities. I made it past initial consideration and had my Skype interview with Comexus panelists a little over a month ago. From what I understood (I'm proficient in Spanish, but not *yet* fluent), they told me it would be a month till I heard back. Still waiting though... Anyone apply for a research grant through Mexico? I also applied to Germany as a research/study applicant and because of this observation have been checking my e-mail pretty much non-stop today. I'm getting so antsy - even our Fulbright program advisor at my university sent out an e-mail yesterday asking if anyone had heard anything because she hadn't (the subject of the e-mail was "Fulbright Results", what a tease!). As illogical as it is, the longer this wait becomes, the more uncertain I become...even though I turned in my application months ago so everything I could do, I already did. Torrid Posted March 18, 2014 Share Posted March 18, 2014 For people doing research grants in Germany, I'm pretty sure the standard for the language requirement is that you need to speak enough German to complete your project. So, if you're planning on poring over German language manuscripts, you probably should be stepping up your German, but if you're going to be doing laboratory research and working with a lot of English-language texts, you don't need to worry. Like others mentioned, that pre-grant course is just to bring everyone up to a basic level (I think they might sort you according to your abilities?). There are plenty of full grants that come over with very little experience with the language, so I wouldn't stress about it too much so long as you think you know enough to complete your project. I've been very good at finding reasons for any day to be the day. "Oh, we should hear today because that one year they heard on the 3rd Tuesday of the month" or "Oh, we should hear today because I like the number 14 and it's the 14th" and so on... The worst part is that I'm nervous because I haven't heard news about other countries either. I asked my contact here at my university and he is pretty much useless. I know another person on this forum applied to Panama. Stranger, do you have any news?! "Why is Fulbright toying with our emotions?!" Is Fulbright even real? Hi arch_in_half, I also applied to Mexico City, but my field is neither eco or water-related, although your project sounds fascinating to me—and perfect for Mexico City. My proposed project is on transnational women writers in post-revolutionary Mexico. My interview was about a month ago as well. It looks like the last week in March is when most applicants for research grants in Mexico have received notification in the past.
