Singapore. Interested in SEA right now. Grew up in Manila but I know I can't do that kind of research too close to home. I'm interested in doing this kind of research across the world beyond SEA.. Maybe in a PHD program.

Wow, are we the same person? What country are you looking to go to?

BAHAHAHA! I love how everyone is quick to snuff out potential trolls. I friggin' love this community!!!!!

Ah, that makes sense - Singapore's culture is such an interesting layering of East and West. Best of luck to you, I hope you get to do everything that you want. :)

Wait how do we know it's Tuesday after 5!? I missed that!

Two people had posted that their FPA's told them we'd hear on Tuesday after 5, I think.

Yea I just asked my FPA and she said we should be notified after 5pm on Tuesday, 2/28.

They do not do this. The mexico person is being dishonest. They are all sent out at the same time. I call BS.

Imagine if US State dept. interns are looking at this page and laughing at our misery, lol. Jerks. They should just let us know now so we can get on with our lives.

haha....

Guys this what my FPA sent me. I guess we now know why it took so long to hear back from them. More than 10,000 people applied for 1550 grants! Best of luck to everyone!

"Next Tuesday, January 28, after 5:00 pm, Fulbright will begin notification to candidates of first round decisions. Your message will come from U S Student Fulbright via the Institute for International Education (IIE) in New York, the contract agent whose national committee structure makes first round decisions. There were a record number of Fulbright applications this year (above 10,000) for the 1550 or so total grants.

Whatever the decision you receive, please hold your head very high, with thanks from your alma mater for your interest."

That's not very encouraging at all; that's a ~15% acceptance rate overall.

Don't everyone freak out too much about this. In 2011-2012 year there were 5450 Full Research applicants and 3875 ETAs. In 2013-2014 these numbers were flipped and there were more ETAs than Full Research, but still about 9500 applicants in total. So while it is higher for sure, not by as much as we are all worried about. I am very curious about the breakdown for this year. Historically, more ETAs apply every year and less Full Research.

To be fair, this is a much higher rate than some of the big NSF and NIH grants out there right now (R01's are at something like 8 or 9%!). I know we're not all scientists who have 30 years of experience, so it's not exactly a fair comparison, but I think that's just the state of science/arts and federal funding right now.

Besides, you have to remember that not all of your competition is created equal. I'm sure that a good portion are "throw away" applications that didn't really make much effort and maybe started the application process a week before it was due, for example. Echoing what many before have said, we are all talented and ambitious folks on this forum, and we all definitely put in some serious effort. You'll drive yourself crazy if you think of the overall rate, because it's not random probability. I'd put money down that the majority of folks on this thread are already in the top 25-30% of those 10,000 applicants. All you can do is have faith in your own ability!

That leaves no room for error, yikes. Although as hopeful and positive I am trying to be, I still feel pretty bummed out already, especially when they changed requirements AFTER the deadline in your host countries page (for next year application cycle? I don't know). D: Best luck to all of you, if you need extra support feel free to message me! I know a lot of people might be alone during these anxious days and somewhat devastating news can really bum out people (my poor SO drove plenty of hours to be here with me Thursday night because he didn't want me to be a wreck ball this weekend, heh).

I am making sure to buy all my favorite food for Tuesday after 5 PM lol :( (I have class from 6-9 PM, so that's going to suck).

I'm truly not setting myself for any expectations. Last week I did the masochistic thing of looking at my SOGP ( hadn't dared looked at it again since submission), and found 2 typos-despite reading it over so many times  and having professors, supervisors and friends in my program help look it over. There is always next year!
Good luck everyone!

They made changes after the deadline in the posted requirements in my program too (Mexico grad degree grant), which I of course didn't follow, and I made it through the first round.

I do feel bad for all of you still waiting for the notification...sooooo exasperating. I wasn't expecting to hear yesterday so I really only went through a few minutes of utter panic until I saw the email in my junk-mail folder from Fulbright-García Robles. Although now I'm in for another waiting game and I'm sure I'm going to feel even more pressure than I did before the first round notification. I'm still in the elation phase for the weekend, however.

De-lurking here. Full Research grant to France and been following along here for a while hoping to get some news.

That's exactly why I'm not going to look over my SOGP or PS ever again. It'll just freak me out!

The numbers of applicants for each pool are now flipped? How did we find that information?

I avoid looking over applications for that very reason! One year I applied for a CLS scholarship, had my essays read over dozens of times by half a dozen people and only after I submitted did I realize there was a mistake!

I have been lurking on this forum the last couple of days rooting for you all! Good luck.
