I can't calm my mind down

This whole process has been so exhausting.  I literally check my emails all day! I am so so so afraid I NEED to get into Ohio State, I already got one acceptance but I honestly think if I am not accepted at any of my other choices I might wait another year.  Of course OSU has almost no information about their acceptances for the MSW program and I am looking at the results on this page and seeing people who had really high GPAs not getting in.  I had a decent GPA (3.4) and I have some slight volunteer experience and a ton of internships but what if it isn't good enough? I have no clue what I will do if I don't get into grad school. So I am majorly panicking!

I think you should keep in mind that you have already gotten into grad school and saying you haven't is a bit disrespectful to the faculty members at Pitt who stood up for you during the admissions process.

Is there a particular reason you NEED to get into Ohio State? You've already done better than a large number of people out there by getting into a graduate program (congrats!). It might not be a while until you hear from them, so just hang in there!

I agree with Sigaba about the comment about not getting into a grad school, it is rude to them and maybe to the others who applied to the same program but didn't get in.

I do somewhat understand where you're coming from, though. The schools I applied to said they give you an answer within 3-6 weeks and it's into the 4th week for two of them! Even though I got into my top choice I'm still freaking out about the other two!

I didn't mean to be rude the issues with Pitt is I have to take a stats course prior to admission, that just isn't possible with my financial situation. It's complicated and I won't go into details but I just can't afford to take a single course before next Fall. OSU doesn't have that requirement (actually I didn't know that my research methods course wouldn't count until after my Pitt app was submitted) OSU just requires a social science background which I have. I'm thrill to have gotten into Pitt but the other 3 schools I applied to don't have that requirement. Well Kentucky does but I can take it in the first semester (which idk if that's any better because I would probably have to test out of another math). I'm just in a state of panic. OSU would be perfect for me, it's near home and I have lived there in the past so I have friends. Just panicking

I don't know if it makes it better that Pitt admitted anyone with above a 3.3 who got their app in by November 30

That makes more sense then, finances when it comes to education are HUGE (unfortunately...). Did you ask if there was a way at Pitt to test out of stats or would that be a no-go? If you are really panicking, you can try contacting the admissions and OSU and ask when you might be able to expect to hear from them by. They might not respond, but if they do you'll be able to calm down a bit. I wouldn't panic just yet! It's only been a few weeks!

Now is the time to start asking yourself how badly do you want to earn a MSW.  Before you get too far along the path of what you cannot do, I recommend that you spend more time on the path of what you can do.

For example, take sko127's guidance and contact Pitt to see if you can test out of the requirement. If not, find out if you can satisfy the stat requirement at a JC/CC in your area or via distance learning, determine the costs of either option, and then redo your budget to see how you can make ends meet.

Thank you.

I talked to Pitt there is really no way around it. I did send OSU an email just asking if they have rolling admission or if applicants will be waiting until well into next year. Pitt gave me until March 15th to respond so I think by then I should know from all the schools. Case said their adcom will be meeting this week and I will know by the new year, Kentucky is by February and OSU their deadline is March 1st but I would think I would hear from them before April. I talked to a current OSU student in the MSW program and they said I should get in and that they knew people who got their results within 3-4 weeks so hopefully! Fingers crossed that I get in and that they don't make me wait 4 months for an answer :)

Okay, what about taking your statistics class at a JC in Ohio between now and the time you get to Pitt?

I talked to a local community college, they said I have to take an algebra class to get into the stats class or test out. I figure if I don't get any other offers I might try to power save and ask my parents to help me and I can take the course before the Fall. That isn't ideal but I would do it. Or defer my admission until the following year.

Regardless of where you end up or who pays, it sounds like you need to brush up on your algebra and you need to learn statistics. If you want to do something with your nervous energy, you can grab some books and start hitting them.

You should ask Pitt if they'll accept a Coursera or other MOOC stats course. Princeton taught one on Coursera this semester called Statistics One. It had all of the stuff I had to have for my BA in sociology. Some Coursera courses come with certificates of completion. MOOCs like Coursera tend to be free. I don't understand why you'd need to take algebra to take stats, unless you virulently suck at math, in which case, you'd be better off not taking algebra. You can also poke around at a wide variety of universities and community colleges and other accredited, um, let's call them institutions for brevity for online courses that you might be able to take for cheapsies as a non-degree seeking student. You'd be looking for Statistics One, Elementary Statistics, Statistics for Social Sciences, or so on.

So what math classes have you taken? Isn't algebra the lowest level math class offered in college? And I know most colleges require at least two math classes for all students.

I took what was called "core math" all the way up to 4. Then I took a formal logic class that took the place of a math course. I did look at some schools like university of Phoenix and DeVry type places and they only offer courses that lead to a degree not specific courses (if that makes sense). I will definitely email them about a possible MOOC stats course. I didn't even think of that.

Logic is fun. I took it as part of my philosophy minor. Lots of people in there were taking it because it counted as a math requirement. I think there is a class at my school similar to your "core math." At my school it's called Math for Liberal Arts. I'd actually suggest it if you need a GRE math refresher. Lots of basics.
