Thanks, cloudysky. One of the greatest things about this board is realizing I'm not the only one rendered completely unproductive by this wait. Ugh. I will hold off. (That's the advice of a friend of mine in the corporate world, too - things happen, give it a week/5 business days. They are well aware they're behind schedule and don't need reminding.)

Just got a save the date for orientation, but still don't have any idea about acceptance/rejection. Thank you Fulbright!

Same! For those who have received save tgebdates earlier, any knowledge of the timespan from save the date to actual notification?

Yeah, me too! Are you guys alternates as well? I am an alternate, and I got excited about the save the date, but then saw it was a "just in case" I am selected...

No, we haven't been notified yet because Central Asia. Yay.

No idea, because ours came for the MidEast like two weeks ago and I still haven't heard from Jordan.

Another question: anyone know what the participant release form is about? How will they be using our names/likenesses/words? I'm most concerned about "words/written materials" -- and what that refers to, since I'm a writer. Are they talking about our application materials? Just curious if you guys might know. I emailed an IIE rep but no one has responded yet.

Soo I'm being interviewed by the University of Munich about a week from now without knowing for sure if I'll be funded for my degree (I'm an alternate to Germany and Fulbright is my only possible funding option). I am seriously panicking, and I really hope that any of you principal candidates to Germany who might be on the fence, or considering other offers, will make up your minds soon so I can get funding! Pleeeease, Fulbright gods, don't let me down! This is seriously my dream program, I will be so crushed if I get accepted but can't attend because of funding.

This whole process is just so frustrating. :/

A preliminary skim of the spreadsheet indicates that no Middle East countries have been notified yet...so, in other words, getting a save the date means that we get to continue our waiting party. Wheeeee fun!

well, Morocco and Israel research have been notified per some of the posts here. But as for the rest of us in the MENA region... no dice.

My Fulbright advisor emailed me today to ask me how I'm holding up, adding that she's been surprised that there have not been any notifications for my country (Moldova) quite yet, and I want to be like....*bangs head on desk from impatience*

(At this rate, I'll have no more friends left, given how often I've been complaining...gotta stay positive!)

I received my orientation save the date for Sub-Saharan Africa on 4/3/15 and my notification about my application status on 4/13/15...so ten days apart. But I'm guessing that's no indication for the other regions.  :( Hang in there!

Catsushi, it's nice that you have an advisor that cares!

Sometimes I think, oh if I had applied to such and such country (Russia, most likely) instead, I would have heard already!!

If any Germany ETA alternates are lurking, just wanted to let you know that a spot will open up! After much thought and consideration I decided to decline for the other program and will reapply next year.

If anyone knows anything about how declining and reapplying looks, that would also be appreciated!

GOOD LUCK  :)

Heads up, USTA Austria has already started choosing alternates! I was given the alternate notification on April 3rd and was given my assignment yesterday. That was really quick but I can't complain haha. Looks like I'll be in Leoben next year :)

I know it's not technically Fulbright, but did anyone else hear back from USTA today? Looks like I'll be in Austria next year!

Yes!

Salzburg!!!!

Still deciding whether to accept it, the Germany ETA, or another offer. CONGRATS!

Where are you placed?

Ahhh this worries me. I still haven't heard a thing. Maybe they forgot about me? Haha. I still haven't gotten an email from them at all. It said we would get notified whether we were selected, alternate, or non-select. I'm kind of freaking out and just emailed the program director. Of course, he is out of office until Monday. The suspense is killing me. Why haven't I heard a thing?????

I declined the USTA Tuesday and he emailed me back this morning. I was placed in Salzburg and have heard nothing but great things about the program. I hope you get that spot! Fingers crossed for you!

Hey everyone! I haven't seen anyone writing about Albania on here, but if there are any Principle Candidates for Albania out there, I'd love to know whether you plan to accept. I found out that I'm an Alternate a few days ago and it would be really helpful to know if there is any chance of getting bumped up to Principle Candidate. Congrats to all the Principle Candidates!

Echoing SjJe2009...does anyone have any clue about the chances for alternates? I'm an alternate to Mozambique. In the email they said there wasn't any sort of list they maintained or anything you could really do to find out your chances, but I'm wondering if this group has any data from the past few years.

It is really tough to estimate, but you could look through the Fulbright spreadsheet (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/t9xTrTMFEvKlBgJlTAN33iw/htmlview?pli=1) and see how many alternates have been promoted in previous years. It's honestly not easy to estimate though, since this spreadsheet only includes the people who have added their information, and I'm sure there are plenty of others out there who haven't participated in this forum.

As a fellow alternate, I'm panicking right there with you. I'm actually interviewing with the university in about a week without any certainty about funding. It's seriously terrifying, and I'm really hoping that some people will withdraw or accept other offers soon so I can attend my dream program. The limbo of being an alternate is so frustrating. I'll definitely keep my fingers crossed for you!!!
