To those who were accepted to the 2 year MSW at YorkU, did your myfile status change to accepted?

Hi there, yes my myfile changed. I received an acceptance email on March 18th and myfile changed a few days later... either March 20 or 23, I don't remember. And I got a package in the mail sometime during the week of March 23rd.

my ROSI just updated! Assumed it would be over despite Angela's continuous comments about them going out until mid-April! For those of you still waiting, hang in there! :)

Thats so amazing! Congrats!

Is it the 2-year MSW @ U of T?

Congrats!! That's amazing! Still no update on my end but so good to hear that people are still getting in. :D Hoping for one more round of acceptances before the "middle of the month" deadline which I'm going to pin as the 15th because why not.

Hi everyone! I am currently in the 2-year MSW at UofT.  I was decently active on this forum last year (and checked it obsessively) so I thought I'd stop by to see if anyone had any questions in their decision-making, etc.

Yes thank you for posting!!! I was actually wondering how the semesters are broken up, I can't seem to find this anywhere. Also I'm not sure if you or anyone you know are in a collaborative program but I wanted to know more about the application and admission process for that.

I will leave it there for starters because I could really go on haha !

Hey again!

Are you able to give a description of your experiences, GPA, and what factors/things/experiences you attribute to you getting accepted, to help us all out!

Thanks!

Sure, so the semester this year went Sept- beginning of December, then Jan to the end of March, with practicum continuing until the end of May.  I was planning on doing a collaborative program, so I looked into it, but I dont think I'm going to end up doing it.  To be honest, I'm not entirely sure myself when to apply to it.  You basically have to communicate with the department you want to do a collaborative program with, and find out what they require for it (usually like, a specific course, and one or two other things related to social work courses, not entirely sure on this one)  Best to actualy email the department you are interested in speaking with.

Here are some dates that vaguely outline the semesters: http://socialwork.utoronto.ca/current-students-services/dates-deadlines/

Feel free to ask more questions if you like!

Hey, I was wondering on average how many hours of classes there are per week in the first year :)

I don't know if it was mentioned earlier in the thread, but did anyone hear what the stats were for this year in terms of number of applicants for UofT?

I believe it was over 800 applicants for 140 positions. Don't hold me to it though lol

Is there anyone following this forum that can give me some information on what Laurier's two year MSW program is like? Also this may sound silly but are there exams? I vaguely remember someone mentioning there was not...

When I emailed Angela she told me it was over 800 applicants for 140 spots.

I second this information! Knowing the format and if having a part-time job is possible, would be great.

Ellogartz - I found an outline online.

Fall: 5 core courses (all theory)

Winter: Practicums with 2 courses

Spring/Summer: Practicum with 2 courses

Fall: Practicum with 1 course
Winter: 2 electives and 2 core courses

Is there anyone following this forum that can give me some information on what Laurier's two year MSW program is like? Also this may sound silly but are there exams? I vaguely remember someone mentioning there was not...

Not silly!!

I'm also wondering if there are typically exams (specifically at York in the 2-year program, but any info helps)

Congrats on your acceptance into the advance standing!

If you don't mind me asking, where did you get your one year BSW from?

It looks like I'll be heading to Lakehead for a one year BSW and am worried because I assume that I will be applying for advanced standing MSW in October 2015 (I don't know if you can apply to regular standing 2-year MSW if your do a BSW?) and I don't start my practicum until January 2016, which is after you submit your applications to pretty much all the programs.

It seems like it would be difficult (if not more difficult) to get accepted into a advanced standing MSW after competing a one-year BSW (especially if I don't start the practicum until after I submit the application – In January 2016).

If you don't mind me asking, what were your experiences like?

I am currently in the process of completing my HBSW at Lakehead and got accepted into the MSW program at Ryerson for the fall so you are good :)

Congratulations! Can you let us know what your ROSI and SGS say? I know SGS usually takes longer to change.
