Schoolpsych23 Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 Hey everyone i was wondering, how common is it for people to stay with current students for the interview? I am flying to all of my interviews and only one program gave a lot of info on hotel and shuttle service to campus. everyone else just gave a date and location.

If a school won't pay for you then they should be willing to put you in contact with a student. Ask whomever sent you the interview invitation.
LovelyFlower09 Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 Hi All Ive been invited to interview at Northeastern in a few weeks for their ED.S. in School Psych program. If im accepted I'd really love to begin courses in the fall and also submit an application for their PHD program. Ultimately I want the option to practice privately in a hospital setting or even teach down the road. Do you all think its wise to begin a masters with them and also apply for the PHD in the fall? Thanks! LF

Thanks! LF It depends. Some programs will let you make the switch, others won't. Why did you not apply to PhD directly? I've noticed that credits don't always transfer well, especially from one institution to another. If you'll be paying for EdS out of pocket you might as well wait another year and apply for a PhD with funding.
athlete2academic Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 I declined interview invitations from the School Psychology program at Northern Illinois, Northeastern, & UC-Riverside. Random information, but it may apply to a few applicants who were waitlisted or have yet to hear back.

Ask whomever sent you the interview invitation. Thank you for the response! Do applicants typically just stay one night if they do stay with a current student, being the night before the interview? basically id fly in the day before, than the next day my interview ends by 12/1pm and i could get a flight that leaves at 5/7pm same day or otherwise it'd be a flight at 6am the next day.
potentialpsychologist Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 I got offered an interview at Tufts last Thursday. Not sure if they sent them all out at once or not, but I thought I'd share in case anyone is waiting. Has anyone heard from Rutgers yet?

Definitely do the same day! I would murder someone who made me get up at 3am to take them to the airport! That being said, some stay the night after... but the just one night preferable.

And usually if you decline they don't fill your spot with someone else. At least in my program we invite everyone we're interested in all at once. It just means that the people who attended would have slightly better odds of being accepted.

According to the results page though, no one else has heard from them either.

My mistake. I received interview invites - then was later accepted - at my top four schools. Didn't make financial sense for me to travel across the country to interview at my backups.

Oh you can stay a second night - I'm just saying don't take the 6am flight! You can take the 3pm and just communicate to your person that you are independent and don't need them to babysit you.
potentialpsychologist Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Rutgers interview email sent out today. Has anyone interviewed there? I'm in a master's program now but I'm confused about the part about bringing psychological reports...
iphi Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 (edited) Just a reminder to everyone to be respectful to everyone you come in contact with, even grad students. I was supposed to host a prospective student who NEVER replied to my emails. Not even to tell me when their* flight was. It was a constant struggle to get information. They emailed me (after someone from my school told them to) and said "sorry I've been so busy". Guess what? We're all busy! They finally cancelled and didn't even bother to tell me. I found it SO RUDE. I told a prof the whole story and he agreed that they should not be accepted. If you can not work well with others, if you deal with only the people you see as important and don't bother with the rest? Well you won't get in. Also, their "busy" comment rankled the prof, he said "they think they're busy now?!" That person hasn't had their phone interview yet, but they are done. *trying to be gender neutral! I'll bitch about this too - the lack of communication part. Had the same problem but roles were reversed. As a general rule: barring some unforeseen, catastrophic event in your life, respond to the emails of those who are trying to help you. Also, unless you're an astronaut, you're never "too busy."
LebaneseKafta Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Anyone on here apply to Canadian programs, seems to be a lack of Canadian school psych. applicants on here CoffeeWithMarshmallows and LebaneseKafta 1 1

new here Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 Hi everyone, I've got one last question about interview attire. For the women who have/are currently interviewing, is wearing jewelry appropriate? Or is this considered unprofessional? Thanks!

Or is this considered unprofessional? Thanks! I think it's fine if it's understated. If when I look at you I notice it immediately, it's too much.
