mo~ Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone knows of a list of schools that focus more on the last 60 units vs. the cumulative GPA. I know that CSUF, and CSULB do this but I'm not sure which others. Thanks!
SLP_in_the_making Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 Fresno and Sacramento mainly look at last 60 units and communication disorders courses
twinguy7 Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 All of the schools I applied to below in my signature look at the last 60 units except CSUN.
combustiblecake Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 (edited) Does anyone know if they look at only upper-division (300-400 level courses, as opposed to 100-200 level courses) or literally the last 60 units of your transcript? I took 300-400 but I also took lower levels that were specific to SLP since I'm out of field. What would count? Edited October 22, 2014 by waitwhichgaby
twinguy7 Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 I am pretty sure it is specifically the last 60 units no matter what the classes are. Whatever shows up on your transcripts as the last 60 total units.
mo~ Posted October 24, 2014 Author Posted October 24, 2014 Thanks for all the feedback! @waitwitchgaby I agree with twinguy about the last 60 units. Although, it might depend on the program because those that do not ask for last 60 units and just ask for undergrad cumulative and csd scores would not care about the last 60 units so it varies from school to school I believe.

twinguy7 Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 How did you find this out? I emailed more than 200 schools nation wide to confirm what they had on their websites. I had a list in the past of like 40 schools who looked at last 60 units and I personally cut it down to 15 to actually apply to based on my communications with the school directors, etc. Steph_slp and caterpillar 2

It would be amazing if you could share them, or as many as you can remember. Thanks! katpdx 1
NSSLHANerd Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 Illinois State University looks at the last 60 credits.
CBG321 Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 Fresno and Sacramento mainly look at last 60 units and communication disorders courses Hi I was wondering how you liked Sacramento's program/department? I'm looking into them and haven't been able to gather a ton of information yet. Thank you!
mr479 Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 I think Utah State only looks at last 60. The admissions coordinator even advised me against listing schools on my academic record that were before last 60. I found that a bit strange, but went ahead with her advice. I got an interview, but they didn't like me after that. I wasn't even put on their exhaustive wait-list! I remember TwinGuy saying he would never recommend applying to U Montana. Well, I feel the same way about Utah State. They aren't very genuine. They even encourage you to lie on your application! But to make a long story short, they only look at your last 60. LOL.

Just wanted to say I had a completely different experience with Utah State. I guess everyone has their own and is entitled to their own opinion, but in that spirit I just wanted to put that out there so there are multiple points of view. Compared to other schools they were very organized, said when to expect an interview and when to expect an answer. I got that from very few other schools. Also, I did not speak directly to them, but I did not get the impression they only look at the last 60 credits from all the material posted. They might emphasize it, but in the application and on the website it instructs to send all transcripts. I was certainly never encouraged to lie in my application process.

I've been reading through your posts, and you are so helpful! I'm torn between applying or taking more classes to boost my GPA; my CSD courses alone give me a 3.5, but overall I'm at a 3.0 (community college from years ago)! I worked as a paraeducator for 4 years, and this will be my third consecutive quarter volunteering at an on-campus aphasia clinic. But, many people in my cohort are being denied, and it's so discouraging. It seems you had a large pool of options during your application process, but are there any that stick out in your mind that put more value on major course grades? Thank you for all your contributions!!

I will have a 3.5 in my last 60 credits but I have community college grades from 10 years ago that are tanking my cumulative well below a 3.0. Im having trouble finding schools that specifically say they only look at the last 60 credit hours.

But one piece of advice is explain your grades fro your community college days in your personal statement. Briefly acknowledge that you weren't a focused student back then and that once you knew what you wanted to do, your GPA from that point on was ___ . Hope that helps.
