  1. sure, whats your email address?
  2. Hey there, I do not have the spreadsheet anymore unfortunately. But one piece of advice is explain your grades fro your community college days in your personal statement. Briefly acknowledge that you weren't a focused student back then and that once you knew what you wanted to do, your GPA from that point on was ___ . Hope that helps.
  3. Just need to talk to the SLP. They of course need their CCC's if you want your observation hours to count or if you just want to observe in general you can do the anytime. Just ask any school SLP.
  4. Hello, A friend of mine is starting the leveling courses for Utah State Online. I was wondering if any of you had pointers for him. Which classes were the hardest? Easiest? Which had a lot of work, which did not? Which classes required the book and which classes did not require needing the course book? Any other tips about classes and the program would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!
  5. I can tell you all about GVSU. Personal opinions is that any program will teach you what you need to know. GVSU PRO is that you get to experience REAL LIFE SLP work every semester at off site JOB sites. On site clinics are not realistic and they make you do so much stuff that real life SLP work doesn't require. I am biased to GVSU, but everything on this site comes from people who are barely in grad school or about to go to grad school. The best advice the can be given is from those who have been through grad school and work in real life SLP world. ALL my coworkers agree that where you go DOES NOT MATTER!!!!!
  6. I am married and my wife and I went through undergrad, second bachelors and grad school together. We got married while both sophomores in College. My wife graduated with her Bachelors in Science in 2012, then we moved to LA ad I finished my Bachelors in Comm Disorders in 13' and then she did an accelerated bachelors in Nursing and graduated in 14' and then I started my Masters program in Michigan the same week she graduated and I did my accelerated masters in Speech and graduated in 15'. What we did was take turns working full time and going to school Full time. I worked FT in 12' while she graduated and then she worked FT in 13' when I graduated. Then I worked FT in 14', etc. etc. etc. We both never worked or studied on Sundays so we knew we had that day all to ourselves. Throughout the weeks we had meals together whenever time warranted and almost always had the last hour before sleep to talk also. The thing that helps a lot is seeing the one you love for hard for you and vice versa. Everything we did was to better our situation together. I'm sure you will enjoy the same experiences! Enjoy it!
  7. @Kslptobe Congrats! A lot of your story sounds eerily similar to mine! haha Glad you were able to get into your top choice and that you kept on working towards your dream and your passion. Thats all it takes is to continue forward! Great story and inspiration for many to come!
  8. Hey there, As far as school districts that will employ you with a waiver, pretty much any of them that have positions to fill, which also means a good 50% or more of the districts on Southern CA. I have heard good things about Hesperia school district as far as support and I do know they are in need. I almost interviewed there last summer. Have you heard of the website Edjoin? PM me for more info if you want!
  9. You can take the Praxis at any time. I believe in a forum on Reddit there were some students who accidentally took it in undergrad and passed. I have 2 Praxis Practice tests in PDF format if anyone is interested. I can email them to you. The closest thing to the real test as far as how it is administered is the $15-20 practice test ETS offers. It is timed and formatted JUST like the real computer test.
  10. I am one who went to CSUN for undergrad and from everything i've heard from friends who attended CSUN after for grad school it in fact is at least 2.5 years. They do not have a set "cohort" style program where everyone takes the same classes at the same semester, etc. This delays people even another semester possibly. I'd say if CSULA has the cohort style program where everyone completes the same courses at the same time ti would be very advantageous. If CSULA is the same as CSUN, where you take classes out of order from your fellow classmates, I'd then go with CSUN since it is closer.
  11. @angela4 GOOD CHOICE I know I've advocated for the cheaper school, even though I went to a not so cheap school, but I didnt have a choice. I only got accepted to 2 schools and the price was the same for both. For example, I was planning on accepting at my undergrad University if accepted because I live down the street and the cost would have been $30,000 cheaper. I would have done this knowing that the program wasn't very organized, etc because it was cheap and I wouldn't of had to move. So again, GREAT CHOICE! you will be taught the same thing every grad program teaches, its up to YOU to absorb the information/study/work hard at externships, etc. You will get out of it what you put into it.
  12. @Afternoonprogram 100% agree! I keep seeing everyone mention "Rankings". Do any of you even know how the "Rankings" are made? Well they are listed in order of schools that have the students/professors with most published research is what I've heard. So the "Rankings" only matter if you want to do research!!! #GoCheapHaveLessStressNDebt!
  13. Hampton University has a June 1st deadline I believe for Fall admissions and Valdosta State University has a July 1st deadline for Spring admissions.
  14. I second what @mbf said. Also it wouldn't hurt to email the schools your waitlisted at with an email of "Continued Interest". Just letting them know you are still waiting to hear back and would love to attend their program. That way, when they do start pulling people off the waitlist your name may pop up in their minds because they saw it in an email or letter you sent them.
  15. GVSU was and still is not accredited yet. They starting in 2014 and I was the 3rd cohort to go there. Candidacy for accreditation just means as long as they follow guidelines for the first 5 years they then will have full accreditation after the 5 years. During candidacy they are still accredited, but its like a preliminary accreditation. Just like when your a CF you have preliminary credential(at least in CA) until you finish your CF. Just the fact that a school is a "Candidate for Accreditation" scares off a lot of would be attendees but you shouldn't worry.
  16. @tvl Yes I work for a district now. Had I known what I know now I would have worked for a district on a waiver before grad school.
  17. @tvl @SLPsingballs I actually worked for a contract company as well, Total Education Solutions who did all the paperwork for me. Looking back I wish I would have known I could just go to a school district directly and apply to work as an SLP and they would do the paperwork for you as well and you get good benefits and paid more. So in short, you can apply to any open SLP position through edjoin.org and if you get hired they can do the waiver paperwork for you. My district for example pays $48k for SLPs on a waiver.
  18. Yea they waive the credential and you can work in any school district in California with a bachelors degree. You don't need to be accepted to a program. If you do it for a second year I think you need to be accepted to a program or pass the CBeSt.
  19. I went to Northridge for undergrad and they typically send out notifications right before their spring break I think. As far as their program, yes it is AT least 2.5 years in length. A lot of my friends went on to go there for grad school and i've heard nothing good about the program as far as length and getting classes you need. Some people have to wait an extra semester just because they couldn't get a class they needed. They have been historically bad at getting students classes. They don't run on a cohort system so you kinda get the classes you need sporadically throughout the program. That being said, it is amazingly cheap if your a CA resident!
  20. @jmjslpca I was referring to working from August to December before she starts the program as that is what she referenced earlier. @kayyyyy_ likewise about work before 2018 start
  21. @angela4 @katelynmarie Off campus clinical sites are the best way to get REAL world clinical experience!!! I loved it at GVSU! We learned in the classroom and were able to practice those things in the same week at our externships in the community which included school districts, Skilled Nursing Facilities, Early Start/Head start Preschool programs, Hospitals (both in patient and outpatient). There were also boot camps during summer time some of us got to do also. I cringe every time I hear about programs who do on site clinical because of all of the paperwork and lesson planning, etc they make them do. This is not Realistic in the real SLP world. There are no "Lesson plans" in the real SLP world and I think its such a waste of time and energy. On site clinics also seem to only give you one patient or client per semester which is sad also. With off-site you are seeing 10-50 patients/students/clients throughout the semester which is much more realistic! Hope this insight is helpful!
  22. I live in Redlands currently and grew up 20 miles away and have always heard good things about the school and program. I have lived in Redlands for a year now and it is a GREAT little city. Population of about 60-70k and away from the major CA traffic (though if you want to go to the beach or Disneyland, etc then your back in that traffic). I can confirm that if you do move to the area to go to Redlands, you WILL be able to work as an SLP on a "Credential Waiver" with just a bachelors degree. You get paid around $40-50k (depending on the district) working with a credential waiver. So that could help you a lot as far as work. EVERY school district in the area is in HIGH need of SLP's so finding a job is very very very easy. You basically get to pick where you want to work for the most part since very School District is at least 1 SLP short if not 5-10 short every year. Feel free to Message me for more specific info if needed.
