Michelle_Mabelle Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 Congrats! Do you think you'll be accepting the spot? Did you apply to CA schools too? Thanks so much! I applied to 16 schools! The Chair of the COMD department had a meeting with CSULA prospective grad students prior to application season and he pretty much let us know what our chances would be considering our GPAs. He mentioned how incredibly competitive California programs are and that if we were considered "borderline" (lower than a 3.8 GPA), we should definitely look into applying out of state. I was born and raised in NJ, so I looked back home for schools. Kean isn't ideal (although my parents literally live 10 minutes away), but I am just soooo incredibly glad to have been accepted somewhere. I've already received rejections for most of the LA schools (including CSULA) with the exception of Northridge who hasn't notified anyone yet. I've also applied to schools in NorCal and Texas. Still waiting for word from Sacramento, San Jose and UTD. Yes, I will be accepting my spot at Kean because I really cannot afford to risk losing it. I hate to be one of those people who will renege their spot after the fact, but a move across the country will be incredibly costly for me and I'd like to avoid it if I can. However, if no one else wants me, back to Jersey I go! How about you? Have you accepted your spot at Kean?

I know it's a reach but I would hate to throw away money if I didn't have to. I don't even know if I would def choose CSUN, I just want to be able to make a fully informed decision.

I don't even know if I would def choose CSUN, I just want to be able to make a fully informed decision. I totally understand. It's not fair that they require us to do this when we're obviously still waiting to hear from other schools, but I understand that they want to move forward with getting spots secured. This whole process brings so much anxiety! If you have any questions about California living, feel free to ask me. I applied to Northridge for the Master's Prep Program and almost went there, but decided on CSULA instead because my interactions with the COMD department at CSULA just left me feeling more informed and comfortable. Cost of living in California is incredibly expensive, so that is something you should most definitely consider should you get in to CSUN. Congrats on your acceptance to Kean! And best of luck on your other applications!
DudeSLP Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 (edited) For those of you waiting to hear from Monmouth: I recieved a phone call yesterday which stated I was accepted to their program. I believe all of those who were accepted were notified via phone. Also, check their website where it says check your application status. Fill out some of your information and your decision will be e-mailed to you. Good luck to all those who applied! Edited April 1, 2015 by DudeSLP
mas810 Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 Who will be attending NYU with me? Any info about the school is appreciated. I've heard some good things and some not so good things.
elisas390 Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 Is anyone else waiting on notification from Iona? They said that they'd let us know our status by April 1st. I'm going crazy!!!
slpwest Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 I saw some people post that they've been accepted to Queens College. Does anyone know if Queens College has called all the accepted people already?

missymel17 Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Just got an acceptance email from Brooklyn College!! Congrats! I was just wondering, when did you interview?
Arcanelady27 Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 I spoke to a very helpful graduate assistant at Brooklyn College. I was informed they are still interviewing and pulling people in for interviews. They are going on spring break as of today, but hope to be done with the process of admitting by April 15th. She said the latest we should know is by the end of this month.
Ama0616a Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Got a letter from Iona Admissions today. Heart Sank, figured it was a rejection. It was just a brochure about their clinical communications certificate. ARRRGHHHHH. Don't play with my heart like this Iona!! Still waiting :-/

Still waiting :-/ My friend thinks they are notifying alphabetically, but I'm not sure how accurate that is. I hope they let us know by today, because I'm assuming that they'll be out of the office from Friday-Tuesday morning since they are catholic affiliated and it's Easter week.
an333 Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 I was accepted to LIU-Post and I will most likely be accepting my offer. I live in California and I am still waiting to hear back from CSUN, but if I do not get in there I will be accepting the offer from LIU. I am excited to move across the country, but since I have only been to New York once I am unaware of where a good place to live is. I have looked at rentals around the school a little bit on Zillow, but they are very expensive. I was wondering if I would be crazy to live in Queens or Brooklyn and commute. I just wanted to get a head start, so I can start planning. I am hoping to start a Facebook page or join one as soon as I 100% commit to LIU-post, so I can find out where people tend to live that go to LIU. agrebea 1

That's awesome, I'm from around there and probably moving to SoCal in the Fall for the program I got into! I think you would find the most reasonable rentals in the town of Glen Cove, about 10 min drive away. Huntington would be 20 min or so (and probably way more expensive) but has more to offer and a cute little town! I would personally prefer Brooklyn or Queens as there's a lot more going on - Eastern Queens wouldn't be terrible since you'll be reverse commuting! But you may be looking at up to a 30-45 minute drive, but post isn't too far from the highway .. Feel free to ask me any questions about the area! Edited April 2, 2015 by jl3568

I was leaning toward Queens and Brooklyn since they seem like they have more exciting things to do. I have no problem dealing with driving and traffic since I have lived in Southern California my whole life. That is awesome you got into a program here. I have lived here my entire life and applied to several programs here but got denied/wait listed to all of them. They are very hard to get into and you should be proud you got in! Feel free to ask me any questions you have about Southern California as well.

Queens, around Forest Hills isn't too far and has a ton to do and is technically off of the island and not too far.. Aw, thanks -it's Chapman, which I've heard mixed reviews about but the change of scenery and warm weather is really appealing! Same to you for NY schools, so competitive! I'm still waiting to hear back from Brooklyn but other than that haven't had luck with NY, so congrats to you too! My friend went to Post and loved it!

I was expecting an admissions decision in the mail because someone on the results page said they e-mailed and they replied stating that all decisions had been mailed out, but all I got was info on their Clinical Communication Certificate program, which is something they've already emailed about. I'm getting nervous!

I hope thats wrong though because I haven't gotten an email!

asdfghjk_38 Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 I checked the Monmouth 'Check your status' boxes today and received an email stating to call to find out about the status of my application. I called and all they said was that decisions are being mailed out. I'm assuming it isn't good because as far as the results page goes they call you if it's an acceptance. A little annoyed they couldn't just email saying that decisions were being mailed out because it made me extremely nervous to call. I guess I will have to be standing by my mailbox all next week.

What do you mean, they call you if it's an acceptance? I just checked it out now because I'm very anxious about my Monmouth application as well, but I believe they say to call the admissions office if you have any questions about it, not to actually find out if you were accepted or not.
