aeb123 Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 I am a MS student in molecular biology due to graduate this May. My PI is extending my stay so that I can do more work and refuses to read my thesis. Since I am not receiving a stipend I am basically free labor for my PI and he has no motivation to let me graduate! Has this same problem happened to any of you?
Eigen Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 I've seen it happen. My first suggestion would be to talk to your DGS. MY next suggestion would be to talk to a trusted senior professor on your committee. MidwesternAloha, SNPCracklePop and GeoDUDE! 3
juilletmercredi Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 Hasn't happened to me, but I have certainly heard of it happening before to others. It's really unethical. I agree with Eigen. Approach your DGS and discuss the matter with them. Presumably there's at least one other professor who has to evaluate your thesis, so that person might be a good person to talk to as well. You could also go to a university ombuds and discuss steps to take with them as well; it's their job to solve problems like this.
med latte Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 aeb123, any update on your situation? Did you approach your DGS? How did it go?
