lindsayg1993 Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 Hey y'all! I want to start putting my resume together for applications but am a little lost on how to include volunteer work and shadowing experience. I tried googling but to no avail. Any advice? Thank you!!
Crimson Wife Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 I'm a mid-life career changer and have been a SAHM for over a decade so I'm using a functional resume format. My sections are "Education", "Relevant Experience" (combo of volunteer, paid, and shadowing), "Other Work Experience" (employer, job title, and dates only), "Professional Development Conferences and Workshops", "Professional Affiliations" (things like NSSLHA), and "Certifications and Credentials".
Apogeee Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 (edited) You could add a category at the end called "Related experience". Edited June 14, 2016 by Apogeee ugh! typo!
delete-account Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 List it under its own heading as "volunteer" and/or "related experience." My resume has the headings - Education, Leadership (Residence Life, mentoring, etc.), Relevant experience (observation, undergrad practicum, research), volunteer, work experience (jobs that I was actually paid for), skills (other languages spoken, computer skills, familiarity with certain software programs, etc.). lindsayg1993 and DogsArePeopleToo 2
SLPtobe22 Posted June 26, 2016 Posted June 26, 2016 I found this blog from someone who posts on here, and I used this post to help me make my resume: http://www.thespeechblog.com/how-to-write-a-resume-for-graduate-school-part-12/ maybe it'll be good for you! thespeechblog.com and lindsayg1993 2
HopefulFutureSLP2016 Posted July 12, 2016 Posted July 12, 2016 I put my volunteer experience work in under "Relevant Experience", as everyone above had stated
DogsArePeopleToo Posted September 22, 2016 Posted September 22, 2016 I have five years of work experience post-undergrad. Are there guidelines for how long my resume should be?
