I also applied to HASTS but have heard nothing (no interview invite). How did it go? Have you heard back from them yet? I of course don't expect to make it far in the admissions process but I'm still anxious nonetheless. I hope they don't make me wait until April for a rejection letter!

Hey!

I went to the interview a couple weeks ago. It was pretty straightforward, socializing with current students at a lunch and the interview itself was about 1hr long. Overall the department was really friendly and I love them even more now... Sigh. It was pretty hard to tell how they're doing interviews (or if they're interviewing all applicants) but it seemed about 5 people per interview day, on Feb 12, 19, and 26. I don't know how many they plan to admit....but HASTS only takes those they can fully fund for 5 years. I think results will come in March-ish, but your guess is as good as mine.

If you want more details, PM me and I'm happy to describe more thoroughly! I'm just paranoid about HASTS departments reading this :)

good luck!!

Thanks for this! I'm confused though... do you mean that you are at the top of the waitlist?

Also, could you please let me know who you contacted at Rice? I've been in contact with Joanne Carpenter in the past but am unsure as to whether she's the right person to ask about my application status!

anyway, good luck to you!!!

Sorry, I am just so ebullient, that... I don't know what I was typing.

As far as I understood it, they have made their offers. By alternate, I think that they mean waitlist. As in, as soon as someone turns them down, they will proceed down the short list / list of alternates / wait list and make offers to those people. As he said: "as soon we find ourselves with an open slot, I'll be in touch."

I contacted Joanne Carpenter, but she actually forwarded my email to my potential adviser, who contacted me himself.

Post scriptum: Good luck to you as well.

Congratulations for those who are securing places! What a long long month this is....

Has anyone heard back from Duke cul anth after the interview? And are there any news about Columbia? Everything seems to be silent...

Thanks!

OK the deal with Duke... the dept. finally forwarded their decisions to the grad school, which apparently took time because they're on some new system and no one quite understands it. i believe accepted students were notified yesterday... but given some apparent systemic issues it's possible acceptances students could be getting emails today. the grad coordinator wouldn't tell me my status but she did tell me that everyone not accepted from the interview pool will be waitlisted. I think they also ended up having few spots available than they anticipated based on a convo with POI... sooo... i want to say if you havent heard then you're on the waitlist (join my club)... but I wouldn't take me to be the definitive source... unfortunately if you call Holly wont tell you lol

and columbia... i dont think theyre done yet. last year i had a friend who found out last week of march, tho i suppose accepted students hear earlier

wonderful. the no-man's-landness of waiting (lists and results). I am impressed by your investigation. I am NOT going to look at my email for the next...hour!

Sooo... I just got confirmation of being on the waiting list for Duke. I am new to the system, but long waiting lists don't seem like a great idea- keeping up the expectation and I am not able to enjoy the other positive results, haunted by the "what if..." (luckily my plan Bs are nice and are happening...)

Good luck for your application results!

you should ask where abouts you are one the list because it is a big one. that's what i did for uchicago and thankfully they were quite honest and said "the bottom" lol. so i got closure fast. good luck to you too!

Does anyone know if Boston U has made all its offers already or have they just started?

Hey there, Im new to this forum. But i recd an offer from BU on the day you'd posted this. Im waitlisted for financial aid. But i just wanted to know, how is the BU anthro prog rated. My interest is in nature-society interactions and my proposed supervisor is Robert P. Weller. I have another offer from UNC-CH for the Geog prog and they're giving me aid. Do you know anyone who's already in the prog and what they have to say about it? Thanks

Hello hello,

have you heard anything after the interview? Any informal hint about when decisions would be made?

I hope you will receive a positive reply (and...one for me as well, please :-)

Nice! Congrats!

I got into UMass Boston :D

Just to share some news, I've heard from a Pr. at Harvard that they only took 6/7 people out of 200 in socio-cultural, and 1 in the med anthro track... It made me feel less sad about not getting in, so I thought that other would like to know too...

Accepted: UPenn, U OK, WKU, SIUC, USC & Brandeis.

Rejected: Michigan, Wisconsin, UCI, Syracuse, WUSTL, Oregon

Still Waiting: UC Berkeley, UT-Austin, UCF

I assume the "still waiting" list is falling under the rejection category.

What a crazy day!!! I found out TODAY I am off the wait list for MIT HASTS! (5 yrs funded)

This coming after a LOOONG process of rejection after rejection, resigning myself to not being in grad school next year, getting pissed at Anthro as a field in general and having a sorta quarter-life crisis involving getting a sweet intl public health job....and then I got the phone call today and just had a MASSIVE seizure/dance explosion/spaz session.......can't believe something actually happened!!

Still reeling....

but incredibly happy
