So I got great news and am super excited to get my first acceptance. But.... I was shocked I was accepted. I was fully preparing myself for rejection while checking on the university portal. Does/did anyone else feel this weird feeling of extreme happiness, as well as feeling they made a mistake and it's all about  to come crashing down?

Probably not what you're looking for, but:

Give yourself some credit! Congrats!

Congratulations!

I got an email titled "DECISION" (for some reason, this school likes to use caps in their email headers..) and just thought immediately that it'd be a rejection. Had to read it twice before I realized what the email meant. It came only 10 days after their deadline so I thought it was a mistake, but happy to know it's not! After months of self-doubt and anxiety, I think it's natural to be surprised by the positive outcome. I mean, we all hope for it, but that's different from expecting it!

Happened to me yesterday. Someone wrote that all the acceptances were sent out two weeks ago for the program I am applying to, so I was prepared for a rejection. When I was notified by my acceptance, I could not stop jumping. It was either the person was wrong or I was on top of the waitlist.

What a dramatic turn of events! That probably made it all the more exciting!

I was about 60% excited and 40% surprised. I really wasn't expecting it especially since I applied to the school for s**ts and giggles.

That's how I felt! Like I applied to the program thinking there was a very slim chance I would be admitted. It was the best ranked school I applied to and I was just soo surprised that they wanted me.

Congrats on your admissions. That was exactly my mentality. Didn't want to get my hopes up, so I kept telling myself that it was okay to be reject because I have a 5-10% chance of receiving an acceptance anyways.

My first response was also an acceptance! I had a similar response, especially since I found out at 10:56pm on a Friday night! It was definitely a shock, and I kept thinking the whole weekend that there may have been some kind of mistake--especially since I didn't feel the school was one of the best fits for me. But I quickly received follow up emails from the Graduate Director and my POI, so it's finally sinking in. I'm still eager to hear back from some of the other schools I applied to (and still pretty nervous!) but I do feel like I can breathe for the first time in two months.
