Adelaide9216 Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 Is it emotionally hard? I am hesitating to take that path.
Adelaide9216 Posted January 30, 2017 Author Posted January 30, 2017 I feel like it could help me to empower black women (myself included) but I am afraid to get depressed along the way because of everything I will discover.
rising_star Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 Everything in graduate school is emotionally hard. I recommend studying something you're passionate about, whatever that may be, because it's one of the only ways to get through all the tough times grad school presents. Good luck! oldacct, Adelaide9216, THS and 1 other 4
socnewbie Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 Hi there! I'm a woman of color with a focus on race and identity. I have thought about similar things, but have been reassured by the growing number of women of color in academia. I think it will certainly require you to build a strong community around you to lift you up as you do this work, but it will also be an opportunity to better understand the histories and narratives of your community in a more powerful way. I'm sure I'm starting on a challenging path, but I feel that I am excited about it enough to get me through. Hope this helps! Adelaide9216 1
Adelaide9216 Posted January 30, 2017 Author Posted January 30, 2017 Hello, do you know any groups, associations, facebook groups of black women scholars in social sciences ? I need to build that network of support and possibly get a mentor. Thanks to both of you for your replies.
