CCCaffeinated-SLP Posted March 14, 2017 Posted March 14, 2017 I am happy to say that I was recently accepted to one of my top 2 programs! I've been thinking it over for over a week and I would really like to accept this offer- is it too early? I know the deadline is April 15, which is more than a month away... I am still waiting on 3 schools, but I am more interested in the school I got accepted to than the ones I'm waiting on. The only other program I'd want to attend other than the one I got accepted to has offered me a spot on their waitlist- should I also accept this? Also, should I withdraw my applications other schools? I'd like to give other people a chance to get in as well. TIA! Akon 1
languagegirl Posted March 14, 2017 Posted March 14, 2017 Have you been able to visit open houses for your top 2 schools?

I didn't get to visit the other one, and they're not having a spring open house, so I'm basing my opinions off of information on the school website, and online reviews. Location is also a factor for me, and this school is in a good location. Edited March 14, 2017 by CCCaffeinated-SLP
plume Posted March 14, 2017 Posted March 14, 2017 (edited) It's never too early! Just be absolutely certain that this is the school you want to attend. If you get off of the other waitlist before April 15 will you regret not keeping that school as an option? (You could accept this offer still, but you would lose money in your deposit to the other school). I would make sure you do all the research you can (talk to grad students, visit, etc.) to make sure you are making the right decision. Then you will know you jumped into your acceptance fully informed! If you are absolutely certain you do not want to attend somewhere you were offered, I am sure people on the waitlist would appreciate you opening a spot up for them sooner. But don't feel like you have to do this if you become unsure for any reason. My only concern with accepting an offer too early is if a school you are accepted to later offers some sort of funding. That's why I am considering waiting. Edited March 14, 2017 by plume
kayyyyy_ Posted March 14, 2017 Posted March 14, 2017 I'm with you except I had declined all my waitlists and interviews at this point. I've been accepted to a couple schools (one being my top choice) and I plan to accept there. I am visiting at the end of the month and will make my final decision after that visit. I think though just holding spots in schools that you probably won't accept wouldnt be beneficial twinguy7 1
languagegirl Posted March 14, 2017 Posted March 14, 2017 If you're absolutely sure then I would say go for it! I wouldn't hold back if that's what you want!

eseteacher Posted March 14, 2017 Posted March 14, 2017 Sometimes you just know. I already accepted my position and paid my deposit. However, if there is an inkling that you might lean to somewhere else wait a week and then tell the school. kayyyyy_ 1

Hey I see you've been accepted to NYU, congrats! I'm still waiting to hear from them. Did they give you a deadline to accept? I'm trying to figure out if they're sending out decisions in waves.
languagegirl Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 Thank you! It's my number one choice so I definitely understand wanting to accept offers right away. I'm only waiting to go to the open house, the 24th. But my deadline to accept the offer is April 17th so it's possible they are still letting people know!!
CCCaffeinated-SLP Posted March 15, 2017 Author Posted March 15, 2017 (edited) Thanks for your responses everyone! I have accepted my offer- I'm officially going to be a SLP grad student at a university I'm really excited to attend! I'm hoping that you all receive some good news soon as well! Did they specify any contact person on your acceptance letter?
