Timothy Vallier Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 Two Rules: 1. If you are waiting, don't shave. 2. If you get an acceptance, celebrate and shave. I've been growing since January 1, and it's getting kind of grizzly. I'm mostly doing it to keep people from asking about acceptances until they see me with a clean face. Also, if you feel so inclined, post pictures.

mario Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 Actually, it does work for some ladies too :) I have a full beard long before my apps and I don't plan to shave it. It makes me look about 5 years younger (kind of Ensign Baby-face, if you get the reference). If I am accepted it will remain as it is, it keeps me warm during winter.

Smaudge Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 (edited) How are the ladies in your life handling your new companions? I know when my husband grows a beard three things happen: 1. It makes me feel like I'm married to a mountaineer 2. The beard becomes part of this grizzlyman alter-ego that includes a very deep voice 3. He threatens to register it on the national beard registry Edited February 7, 2010 by Smaudge Smaudge 1
Encomendero Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 I grew a handlebar moustache over the summer. Until I get an acceptance letter I will let it grow longer and longer. Moustache wax is keeping it from getting too crazy...
solairne Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 I'm 22 and can't grow a full beard. I only get Johnny Depp patches.
anxiousapplicant Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 I'm a girl, but with all my stress induced skin problems I probably will have a beard before this semester is over. eikko and socnerd 1 1
pea-jay Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 I'm sporting two weeks of growth. (closest emoticon for beard) I hate it. It looks bad and my wife complains. Plus it's itchy. Might have different opinions if it looked good but it doesnt. Im going back to stubble which does look much better.
jacib Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 I like how it's let's grow a beard. As if all the individual beards are part of some greater, uber-beard that stretches across states and oceans. tem11, melusine, Beck and 2 others 5
johndiligent Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 This really only works so well for the men in the forums... If you want to play, don't shave your legs?
anxiousapplicant Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 If you want to play, don't shave your legs? Well, like my mother always says, that ship has sailed.... socnerd and Beck 1 1
melusine Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 (edited) lol - you guys are hilarious! I'm planning on not cutting my hair until I hear from schools (with hopefully an acceptance). I know it doesn't sound like much but my graduating photosession is coming up and my mom's been begging me to go to the hairdresser. My hair's pretty long and curly and I'm not the best at taking care of it. I can usually get it to behave but with all the stress this past season, my hair's on the verge of becoming one long dreadlock.. Edited February 7, 2010 by melusine
iceman Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 Its already been 15 weeks since my last haircut and I plan on not cutting it till I get a decision from every place I applied to. I hope this wont be longer than April -- the summers are hot here, and I just found out my hair starts curling and getting crazy when its long! I would love to do the beard thing, but as someone above mentioned, I only get patches, cant grow a killer one yet
jlloyd87 Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 I'm sporting two weeks of growth. (closest emoticon for beard) I hate it. It looks bad and my wife complains. Plus it's itchy. Might have different opinions if it looked good but it doesnt. Im going back to stubble which does look much better. Don't do it!!! I am going on my 5th month without shaving and I am enjoying the product. You are almost past the itching. I cannot tell you how many compliments I get about my beard! I was planning on shaving when I went to interviews, but I don't think it would set any POI running. http://www.biggerbetterbeards.org/
chemePhD2be Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 I grew a beard for a while hoping that the intrinsic luck would bring on the acceptances......... however nothing happened. So then I thought that if I suddenly shaved my beard, I would instantly get an acceptance........... but again nothing happened. Back to the beard I guess.
Timothy Vallier Posted February 13, 2010 Author Posted February 13, 2010 (edited) Ok, here is my progress up until this point. I'll post again April.... Edited February 13, 2010 by Timothy Vallier expressionista 1
