GRE cutoffs?

Do schools/departments look at the GRE scores religiously? I recently got an M.A with extensive experience and having low GRE scores that are expiring is making me super nervous!

I'm in a different field, but I've heard mixed things about GRE scores.  Some programs say they look holistically at your application, while others have clearly posted minimum scores (where they essentially say if you don't have this GRE score, don't bother applying).  Are you able to look at data for previous accepted applicants?
