1224 Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 Apologies if this thread already exists, I couldn't find it! I'm starting to get antsy and haven't heard from anywhere yet (though I haven't seen any of my programs posted yet on the results page so fingers crossed...), and would love to discuss with other applicants. In particular, getting nervous about Princeton QCB, which sent out invites on the 9th last year.
Rndbmi Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 I would love to know if anyone got invites for Columbia’s Biomedical Informatics program. Based on last year, I assume today would be the day they would send invites.
Catia Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Thanks for making this thread!! I too have been stressing- I didn't apply to Columbia or Princeton though so I've got no input there unfortunately.
1224 Posted December 18, 2017 Author Posted December 18, 2017 Anyone hear any news? Or any rumors about when notifications will come out? Based on last year's results page, this week might be a big one.
Rndbmi Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 Per the results page: Duke, UPenn, UMass Med, UNC
Logic Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 I won't be applying to comp bio/bioinformatics PhD's until next year but best of luck to everyone!
Crucial BBQ Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 I'm at Maryland. Nice to see this thread happen, was feeling a bit lonely. If anyone has any questions, please ask.

1224 Posted December 20, 2017 Author Posted December 20, 2017 I also think Harvard BIG, Princeton QCB, and Cornell Tri-I will go out this week, based on past results! Some violinist 1

Based on last year's results page, this week might be a big one. Hey! So I've applied to MS Bioinformatics at GaTech, CMU and UIUC as of now. I've been in touch with a couple of professors at GaTech and UIUC who've been positive about an RA position. So a couple of days ago, I received an email stating that they'd make early decisions for GaTech this week. So all the best to everyone for that Edited December 20, 2017 by nishant1247
nishant1247 Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 Just received an admit from Georgia Tech via email. Really excited!
1224 Posted December 21, 2017 Author Posted December 21, 2017 Yay! Congrats!! That's super exciting! I applied to PhD programs and so far I have two interview invites (one last week, and one yesterday), but I'm hopeful about hearing back from a few other places either today or tomorrow, based on historical data. nishant1247 1
not_really_cool Posted December 22, 2017 Posted December 22, 2017 I have an interview invitation from UMich PIBS / CMB and a rejection from UW Genome Sciences. Still waiting to hear from: Duke CBB Harvard BIG NCSU Bioinformatics Stanford BI UKentucky IBS UNC BSB WashU CSB
Rndbmi Posted December 22, 2017 Posted December 22, 2017 I’m hoping today is the day I finally get an invite. I only applied to 2 programs (Columbia BMI and UCSD BISB). I have 3 more to send but they have later deadlines.
Izaak Posted December 22, 2017 Posted December 22, 2017 Yay for this thread! Anyone heard any news from Princeton QCB, or Harvard Systems Biology? I've got rejected from Washington - unexpected, but i'm international, and the page states the extreme competitiveness for internationals. I've got an interview with Columbia Systems Biology - they'll fly me out from London to NYC so I think they liked my application. Any news would on the following programs would be vastly appreciated: - Princeton QCB - Harvard Systems Biology (I emailed Liz, she said invites would come out today) - MIT CSBi - Cornell Computational Biology (I emailed Sue, she said decisions likely to be 8th Jan) - Berkeley Computational Biology - CMU-Pitt Computational Biology (I emailed Nicole, she said decisions before mid-Jan)

If you mean University of Washington, you're right: public universities have a lot less positions available for internationals, because tuition (which is paid for by the department) is 2-3 times more expensive. So our chances as internationals are actually better at top private schools than public schools. Still no news on the Harvard SysBio either... now that you tell me the invites go out today, I'm bracing myself... Edited December 22, 2017 by Some violinist

Yeah, I think Berkeley admission will be tough for the same reasons as University of Washington. I'm bracing too, although, I'd take these decision dates with a pinch of salt. Some violinist 1
PanCan Posted December 22, 2017 Posted December 22, 2017 Did anyone hear back from Harvard SysBio yet? Some violinist 1

1224 Posted December 23, 2017 Author Posted December 23, 2017 (edited) Wow, @alittlecarl, they send out email invitations even after business hours? I didn't apply to SysBio but that gives me some hope for BIG! Edited December 23, 2017 by 1224
Rndbmi Posted December 23, 2017 Posted December 23, 2017 I noticed UCSD BISB gave invites today. Does anyone know if they will be emailing invites until next week?
Some violinist Posted December 23, 2017 Posted December 23, 2017 Congrats @alittlecarl! Guess I didn’t make the cut; oh well.
