FYI to PhD applicants, I emailed the contact for the department and she said letters were to go out "very shortly." She also told me that I was rejected (no surprise) as she assumed I needed that information to make other decisions (I did). Anyway, FWIW, all PhD applicants should receive letters very soon!

Got my first acceptance yesterday to UNC Chapel Hill! The interview was only via phone and I've never been to Chapel Hill, so sounds like I'll have to plan a visit pretty soon!
-
Mine is this way as well. No checklist anymore...

I found the faculty to be fairly inexperienced and un-engaging. Their administration and "red tape" is a bureaucratic nightmare and the curriculum (for teaching) is really disconnected from current teaching practice. The people in my cohort were intelligent, dedicated, and passionate teachers--but we all found the courses and the course work to mostly be busy-work and not particularly applicable to the positions for which we were in training.

Anybody apply to UVa (Curry school of ed)? They've been totally silent...
-
Just the email with the link to the decision...
-
No, he's super busy--I figure when/if I get that invite I'll bug him!

News of the day: I got an official rejection from UPenn (which I expected, b/c no interview) BUT, I also got an email from a POI at UW indicating that my application was "excellent" and I would make "an excellent candidate" for the program. FINALLY some positive news!

I do. My husband's close friend from college is the the 3rd cohort. He was an English teacher before he went to HGSE.

Congratulations! -
Today a link appeared that said my admissions decision was available and I was rejected (as I suspected). Not too bummed. Good luck to all of those going for interviews soon!
-
So...I'm going through my typical evening (torture) routine and was checking all my application statuses...and when I logged out of Penn's tonight (with no news, obviously), it says this : Successful Logout! Application for Admission: Submitted Submitted Date: 12/15/2012 Application for Admission 2: In-Progress Anyone else have this??? What is "Application for Admission 2"?? I'm sure it's never been there before.
-
Agreed! Here's to our future cohort #4! (and also to hearing SOON!)
-
Yes, this! I've received no communication...which, up until 3 days ago, I fully thought was a rejection...but now nothing! Is it weird that I'm this hopeful for a waitlist?
-
Thanks, guys! It does help to know that you all are out there and understand this process so intimately. I appreciate all the support! I'm sure it will all work out in the end...
-
I also have received no communication re: PhD (which I assumed to be a rejection). Where do you see "applied" on their website. I just see "submitted"--but definitely no status change. However, this is the same status/portal as a school I just received a paper/postal rejection from, so...
-
Well---just got my first "official news" and it was a rejection. This process sucks. In some sense, I feel some relief to know SOMETHING, but...yeah.

I have a master's and teaching credential from a cal-state. It would be easy for an international student to get in, I would think, but I don't know that I would agree that it would be easy to move from there to a top PhD program...(although, I suppose I can let you know more in a couple weeks ) I didn't love my teaching credential program, nor the psych program, so I wouldn't particularly recommend...IMHO

Congrats on the interview! (unsolicited advice) Prepare yourself by reading current research on education hot-topics...most of my EdS interviews asked about my personal philosophy/thoughts on RtI (figure out your feelings on this, if you haven't already, and be prepared to back them up), recent issues (think gun violence/mental health in schools, etc)... Feel free to PM me if you want more info/details...and CONGRATS!

EdYouKateOr, you think we'll hear about interviews potentially this week?

School Psychology Ed.S Applicants? (Or anybody with input)

I'm finishing my EdS this semester and applying to PhD for the fall. Have you decided to apply to EdS programs? I applied to a handful (mostly local to Southern California and a couple in Chicago) when I applied several years ago. Overall, that application process is (to me) far less stressful than PhD programs, as the curriculum tends to be fairly standardized in EdS programs. Basically, just make sure you go to one that's NASP approved and you're fine regardless. Also preferable to attend one that is local to the area in which you'd like to work... -
I personally am freaking out now that it's officially February and I haven't heard anything yet...here's to hoping this anxious waiting ends soon! One of my program's said "very early February" for a decision timeline---which, as you can imagine, will not help with my productivity today... :-/

Congrats! Which program did you apply to? I also applied to the PhD there (but I suspect to different areas, since mine was due 12/31...?)
-
Would you mind sharing which PhD area/program you applied to? And also the time stamp on your email...? Thanks!
-
I applied to Educational Psych at Univ Washington (with School Psych emphasis), but I did not apply to either of the schools you mentioned...where else did you apply?
