  1. I have some questions regarding fit. Suggesting that your program is larger than 10 persons then it might actually be hard to keep track of what is going on with everyone (where they are and where they are heading in terms of research). Did you identify a "core" of applicants and then looked deeper into their interests, possible POIs (suggested fit by the student) and cross-compared with the faculty/department to get a sense of fit?
  2. Swweeet! Are you going to the SF and Victoria visits as well? My experience of Victoria, spent 6 months and have lots of friends who live/went there, is that the university vibe is grand, strong community. I would raise a finger about downtown Victoria tho... there are warning signs that it will follow some of the other mid-major B.C cities. (Just don't google Macleans and take it for a serious newspaper..). I spent 2 years in Saskatoon (which is supposed to be third most dangerous city in Canada) and never ever ever felt threatened or at-danger. (my posts seems to go south very easily - sorry.. )
  3. thanks! And thanks amlobo! now I'm done and done! Been nice knowing all of ya! If anyone is at PAA then give me a shout (if you can identify me
  4. Yeah I do believe that they did send out things but the latest claim on the results board was that all acceptances had gone out.. There are only 2 results on the page and I have it verified that they were looking for a cohort of 8. I feel like there could still be a couple of acceptances coming..
  5. So there was a discussion on the results page about the Yale situation with acceptances and I would like to know more about the answer: Do we actually know that they have sent out acceptances or is someone just using inference and possibly misleading us? If someone has proper information then I would sure like to know
  6. BA in Human Geography, MA in Demography with focus on life course (early adulthood) and social stratification. So Sociological demography. Perhaps we should set-up one of those "profile result" threads that other disciplines have
  7. Just figured I would chime in here and say that there are several PhD programs that do allow you to fast-track your program if you have an M.A. This is the option that I got from the school that I will attend and I have an MA in demography. The "adding two years to the whole process" is understandable as I, myself, am pushing the upper-limits of the 20s but I tend to think of this as an end product as much as a path to greater things.
  8. In at Cornell. Live the phrase; the sky is the limit!
  9. Most of us are Swedes I actually work 1 floor up from the CREOLE program so if you get accepted - drop us a line and I can treat you to an introductory coffee. I was so sure that all MA programs followed the basic Swedish schedule: decisions by July?
  10. RE Yale: my "application status" on the online system has changed dates for the third time... Has anyone else heard anything?
  11. Congrats! On a completely unrelated topic, and I am sorry for linking this to your acceptances but c'est la vie, UCSD faculty page sure cements the idea that going to a top 10 school with the proper network and "backbone reputation" is important for one's future chances. Feels like I could write the paper "Narrow searchlight - application processes at graduate and doctoral level in the 21st century" and only focus on perfect market and imperfect information-rationals. Mills would have a field day.. and no - I ain't bitter. I'm sweet and tender.
  12. Paula England is one of the co-directors and I think the active one.. 15th of March is their last date of decisions so we should hear something soonish
  13. It's all about that sentence on their homepage explicitly saying "do not call us - we'll call you if you measure up". Rough if anything
  14. Has anyone heard back from the PAM program at Cornell yet ? I have seen some posts on the results page but have heard nothing myself.
  15. You could look into these projects and see if it still interests you and then read from there: http://virtualworlds.sociology.su.se/index.eng.html http://graduatestudies.concordia.ca/SIP/researchcurrents/currents/gamestudiesanddesign/
  16. Another field but I have one good acceptances... and two job possibilities. After applying and getting some rejections - I looked at the situation and found that it would probably be a smarter move to go into the professional track rather than the educational. My one acceptance is at a top20 but I, being non-US, feel that it would probably not allow me to stay in the us or find anything above lower rung associate-status or post-doc. I have a good MA already so not sure what a semi-good phd would add to the package unless I was really set on the academic world.. That said - I am incredibly happy that I did apply and if I get into a better fit then I will have to have a harder think about the situation.
  17. I have seen that this is the same issue for people in the sociology field - waitlisted for funding. You could lurk in the penn thread there to see if anyone has cleared the situation. Be aware of the trolls lurking under the bridge tho..
  18. The rejection after acceptances is probably due to time/work-load. Passing information to the few who were admitted takes a matter of minutes whereas adding all the rejections might take a whole lot longer. I am not sure about what kind of automated data system they have but I can understand their priorities. It would, however, be alot easier if they just put a notice on their webpage/twitter/here/in space that "yes we are finished with our decisions; all the acceptances have gone out whereas the rejections will come asap". No e-mails, no calls and then everyone could move on and be fine with it. I am pretty sure that for every new results posted here without proper info - someone calls/e-mails the programs and asks for an update.
  19. Sorry to hear. This process could seriously do with some centralization and transperancy. Programs could post a short notice that they have started/finished sending out decisions et al. Would save time and energy for both sides.
  20. Thanks for letting us (me) know and I am sorry about the rejection.
  21. Trolls a-plenty in these parts. Until someone steps forward and claims it; stay calm and ignore. And cheer up to the Madison rejects.
  22. Naught. I even e-mailed them on friday to see whether they could help to understand whether they had sent out anything or not but my inbox seems only to be for work assignments and no-thank-you letters.
  23. Just to chip in regarding the clusters - I had a meeting with one of the professors (pm me for name if needed) this spring and mentioned my interest in them. It was then brought to my attention that they are going to rework the clusters. This might be something to look into if you think about this route.
