  1. Congrats to all the new admits! Jolly good work! On a related note - The Vikings wants me to QB next year so my back-up plan is all set! It was my safety place so good to have some news.! Aim for the sky, fall flat on your face...
  2. Just to clarify - I am sorry for this standing-out as a post directed at you (since it was in your thread) but it was more a general thought. I think it is good to be clear about the fact that adcoms/whoever reads these post and that one should use common sense but many of these faculty/senior posts had such a feel of "kids - be nice or you'll never get your treat". Thanks for not taking my post in the wrong way I am not always a vision of clarity.
  3. Netiquette works both ways in most cases. Secretly reading people's discussions and chitchatting about it in the dark is considered bad form in most circumstances and should be frowned upon. It is very power games to announce yourself as a person in authority/power and then point out what other people should think of/limit. I understand that alot of these posts do arrive within the context of things going in the wrong direction on this forum but it still feels rather weird that it hints that we should beware of "our actions" since we are judged on them by our seniors..
  4. If you are anything like me, i.e. rather self-aware especially when looking in the mirror, then I would suggest that you find a good and nice place to have the skype talk as well. I had a long skype talk with someone important using my laptop and noticed that after my five minutes that I had crouch down and edge close to screen to be visible (since my laptop cam was at the height of my chest when facing me in sitting position). It was uncomfortable, made me look really strange ("head in hands, crouched over the laptop and table and not at all too comfortable") and I had a hard time of feeling comfortable. But apart from that - it's all good! be yourself and all those basic things.
  5. Not my field but saw the acceptance on the result page and figured I would tip my hat to the 3rd timer getting in! I'd paypal the money for a celebratory drink but I dont condone drinking! Congrats anyhow!
  6. So - are we expecting anything during the coming week or will we have to wait until the feb ? UT-Aus?
  7. Holding all my hopes for you!
  8. Tell her congratulations from the gang! and a note to myself - life goes on!
  9. Hugest congratulations on this wonderful day! I hope more of these will come for you!
  10. Can't upvote so I comment. Stick around sounds like the best solution if you have an interest here. Whatever foul turn that the forum might have taken during this cycle is not an isolated occurence but rather a ongoing trend re internet behavior. Look at most serious debates anywhere - they are almost always overwhelmed by those who simply want to get heard..
  11. Not helping with the anxious wait but all my best wishes! At this point in time - we're all second guessing ourselves, wondering why and how it will come together (i'm not even thinking about if..) so yeah - you're among peers

  13. Stockholm, Sweden is not more fun. I have to wake up to an empty inbox, work 8 hours and then when it's time to go home; people start waking up on the east coast. Those working hours are uuuh
  14. Losing yourself whilst getting disowned by the world in CIV4

  16. Congrats! Best of luck with the rest of the applications! The same goes to the of y'all! Thanks for all the help with the application process!
  17. Congratulations! Big up!
  18. Sorry - UNC! (and no - I was not spending hours on their graduate page trying to find the secret entrance!) Columbia says this: No department other than Psychology sets a minimum score requirement. For those applying to Psychology, although the department bases its decisions on an overall recommendation of applicants' scores, grades, recommendation letters and potential for scholarship in the program, it encourages applicants to have a combined verbal and quantitative GRE score of 1200 (for tests taken prior to August 1, 2011) or 310 (for tests taken after August 1, 2011 and subject to the revised scoring system). Whereas you can do some inference from other programs at Northwestern: Average Quantitative GRE Scores Pol sci: 695 Stats: 783 econ: 798 Anthro: 698
  19. http://gradschool.unc.edu/pdf/2010-ADMISSION-STATISTICS.pdf I completely missed this last time around but for future generations. At the end of the file - there is the GRE scores: UNC Sociology: Applied GREQuantative 666.22 Accepted GREQuantative 726.43 Denied GREQuantative 656.91 Enrolled GREQuantative 699.09 Applied GREVerbal 571.48 Accepted GREVerbal 663.57 Denied GREVerbal 557.24 Enrolled GREVerbal 647.27
  20. I just started re-reading Didions "The Year of Magical Thinking" and "Blue Nights" and regain alot of my focus. Nothing captures my own feelings/memories of sorrow/as the first book whereas blue nights captures the rebounding.
  21. Just a helpful pointer to all and everyone. To ignore users - just click your username in the right hand-corner, choose manage ignore pref and then enter the username of said user... It works like a charm
  22. Rough - hope it has worked out with the rest of your applications!
