  1. Mine was https://gradstatus.northwestern.edu/status.php and then I had a "Decision Status: An admissions decision has been rendered. Please log in to Apply Yourself to view the decision." It's alright tho - I can finally delete their entry from lastpass; needs to cleaning out.
  2. Congratulations! And the decision is found on the website - no e-mail.
  3. Right there with you! Second week in a row that I've gotten ready to leave work and found a rejection notice in my e-mail. Thanks for letting me know on a friday before a long weekend. I'll just sit here and wait in silence for someone to pick me up.. Gonna go read one of Bolano's novels and slowly slip into bitterness. I take some joy in knowing that the U.S will be dead broke in 4 years and it aint easy to get a blue card into the EU.....
  4. Since you have an offer - I would wait and see whether a graduate student in the program contacts you and then you can ask direct questions about their experience of Durham. Also just read up and try to get a feel of the city; then compare it to the places that you are frequenting/advoiding and see where it falls. People seem to hate on Durham, and alot other blue collar-ish places, just because they are unknown and do not advertise themselves as paradise city (I'm looking at you - PAC12 and UC* colleges). And as previously noted - you have the whole research triangle at your mercy. It's the place to be!
  5. It's friday - best of luck to everybody! I decided to test these shark-infested waters and e-mailed UNC: Decisions should be finalized and sent out within the next two weeks.
  6. "You may access your decision by logging into the online application at https://apply.gsas.columbia.edu/apply/. In the “Status Update” section of your Application Status Page, please then click on the link titled "View Update.” A new browser window will appear with your decision." If you can do this then you have a decision - if not then I guess it's still pending.
  7. Go to my profile (your nick at the top right hand corner), edit my profile, and then signature
  8. Be yourself. If you will wear it to work for the next 5 years then i'd be upfront about it. I hope that they would not discriminate against such things. Brushing your hair feels rather overdoing it as well. Go for the "Whitnail and I"-vibe. (sorry - these days; people should ignore me!)
  9. You should move this to the Sociology sub-forum or check the threads for this application cycle:
  10. Congrats to all the new Arizona admits! (and cheer up to the rejection :/) It is nice to see that every day seems to bring a new wave of acceptances. One of these days my programs might wake up and spread the news..
  11. It's a combination of previous cycle results, insider information and uncertainty reduction at play. This sub-forum can get less than friendly so everyone tries to be helpful whilst protecting themselves. Bentham would have loved open-ended forums.. Hunches and whispers is all we have so we take it.
  12. Very very nice update! Wonder if this is true for UNC as well ?
  13. I'd just reiterate what has already been said: take some time to think about what has happened and how you feel about it. You have taken a great step in a direction that you felt was right and big up to you!
  14. Thanks. I see your point and feel like you are describing any city/neighborhood/township that is not a guarded haven for certain demographics. I am not sure why you did link to a story from 2008 tho? Appreciate the update!
  15. Na sorry - just trying to get help cool us down and enjoy this period of rest.
  16. Just heard that any time within the coming 10 days would be the time period. Just a time frame
  17. What does bad neighborhood in this context mean? Durham is a different place than Chapel Hill but I've heard a number of people saying that it is awesome and safe if you like the working class traditions. I am sorry for asking this but graduate students tend to be a select population and a bad neighborhood can have so many different meanings depending on what one is used to. For example - I lived in Saskatoon, SK, and was told by "Canadians" (i.e. non first nations) that I should stay away from the west side since it was dangerous etc etc etc. The real reason was that these were either poor (proper working class) neighborhoods which often had high concentrations of First Nations populations. I tend to tell people moving to Stockholm, or anywhere else that I've lived, that there are places where it would be unwise to walk home alone after dark but I usually just say this without any real knowledge of it. Hearsay goes along way.
  18. Dito! Montreal is amazing! Fairmont bagels, portugese chicken (turning veg never hurt so bad), running up Mont Royal, nights at the blue dog. Find a place to live in the plateau, pay 500$ and feel right at home. Little crime, pretty people and that European feel. Montreal is second to Toronto in Canada (dont ask me why I lived in the Sask. Sk for a year but yeah..)
  19. April 15th unless stated otherwise. International decision day since 0 b.c. On a related topic - are we supposed to hear a word from Duke this week?
  20. The damned mind is lost. Gone into the lonesome wood; dancing Danse Russe and pretending to be William Carlos Williams.
  21. Good on ya! Wish I was young and could replan accordingly. Then again - straight and narrow trajectories are for the protected meh
