  1. Good luck!!!! selected twice an an alternate, though to the Fulbright Scholar award, due to 5 years professional experience. I am trying again, we'll see. fighting for 1 maybe two grants gets tough..
  2. Well I will join in on this good luck above and I have applied three times twice selected as an alternate, and this last year not even past the first round with the same project i was selected as an alternate with twice. Only difference is I have been in private sector working after school for 5 years so i have to apply as a research scholar. Thus, I am competing for one grant, unlike the ETA's. So the alternate was positive given the number of applicants, lets hope this year is better. Though I will add, I put in this past year project i applied twice before and was selected as an alternate. So not sure if ti worked against me. I will leave out this time for sure. Good luck all!!!!!
  3. Hey Am i missing something? did you get the Fulbright or the Nat award?
  4. I am very sorry to hear that. You know I didn't even get recommended. Odd!!!!!! two years in a row recommended and selected as an alternate and not even into the second round. For future, and i know this was a topic in this forum, this go around, deciding on whether or not to put you were selected as an alternate prior. I did that this time, and maybe it was not a factor, but next time a I AM LEAVING IT OUT!!!!!!!!... We will seee!!!!!!!!!
  5. Hey did you get it? I remember you from last year.
  6. thank you and agreed,, maybe a different committee.
  7. Well applied under scholar program and two years in a row, I was selected as an alternate, losing out to people much older then me. Talked to Fulbright this past time, and the person said well your project is solid, maybe make mention you have previously applied, as Fulbright likes that. Well I did, and this year not selected to move on past first round. Either they thought, this guy has not gotten the nod twice before so let someone else go through, or since my proposal deals with intelligence and such, maybe with the de-stabilization of Europe with terrorism recently, they thought to unsafe. Or maybe i was outclassed. I saw who got the selection last year, some 50 year old lady, who was a researcher.. That's not real experience... I have worked in the field for the past 6 years, thus I had to apply for scholar, and I have a Masters, and am an ABD now. Another benefit was, my work would of let me go for the 4 months. Anyways, I will call and ascertain what I can, and send it ion minus my statement of applying twice before. Fulbright has said, the reviewers do not know if one has applied the year prior, so maybe the statement ruined me.. Will we'll seee..Good luck to all
  8. I'd still go through it or apply at large?
  9. I am applying for the UK, pretty competitive, but we will see. I called the Fulbright Commission and they stated from Nov 15th to Dec 15th they will notify. So the wait could be longer. My topic will be centered around public policy/ intelligence. Unfortunately, I'm younger then most on the scholar program. Last year, I lost out to a PHD person who was like in her 50's. I essentially checked the scholar list, thus knowing who received the one grant. That's the other issue, I am fighting for one grant. So we will see!!!!!!!! I am hoping to do my PHD in International Relations/Security in Belgium.
  10. So you in grad school now? I applied UK for scholar program, due to 5 years of professional experience. Alternate two years in a row.. fingers crossed as they said by Nov15th we'll know whose moving on to next round.. So you are doing the scholar program or the student program
  11. Yes, it is only for teaching. My mistake on noting that. If research falls through, one can do this and at least get out there. Who knows what the networking capabilities are.
  12. I would apply at large and keep your university out of it. Since you are applying to Austria, you can also look at the USTA. not the Fulbright resume additional, but pretty equal and it's in Austria
  13. So did you receive one last year or are you applying now
  14. Well, I applied under scholar, and my proposal was turned in August 3. But if you would like me to look it over, let me know.
  15. Research why the location is better than others. Maybe research the company is discuss why it's much better then others. Also, I mean that's where you got the collaborator from.
  16. My thought: Well the reason you are doing it in Spain, even though there labs in the U.S, is exactly why J. William Fulbright created the program. "to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries." That's why you are doing it in Spain. Spain is where your collaborator is, and it's a viable research topic which could enhance mutual understanding between the U.S and Spain. Both leaders in Solar Energy.
  17. Though Uk very competitive, Germany is not as much. If you still interested, try it there
  18. Same to you, Germany chances are much better than other places. Good luck !!!!!
  19. I would of like to have gone to Germany, Luxembourg, or Czechoslovakia. I am hoping to eventually reside in Europe.
  20. I wish I had done the Student ETA after my Masters, but didn't.
  21. According to Fulbright due to my 5 years of professional experience, I had to apply for scholar. I think the work experience is leveling factor.
  22. Odd, I think the application period closed.. I just saw something that said 16 August.. maybe not, but check it out if your interested.
