Yes, the UK is very competitive. I applied the past two years under the scholar program and was selected each time as an Alternate. Fighting for the one grant is difficult. Good luck!!!!!!!!! I am in a PH.D program now and work full time. Hopefully, my Fulbright proposal is geared towards my PH.D. I am hoping in the big picture to move to Europe few years down the road. Love it there..

No, not sure how the ETA works, but with the scholar application, you prepare a 5 page proposal. Towards the end of the proposal where I discuss relevance, i added the paragraph.

My thought here, though I applied for the Fulbright Scholar Program (Due to 5 years of work Experience). The Fulbright person told me it shows perseverance and the Fulbright committee likes that. I applied the past two years and each time selected as an alternate. After the first time selected, I left out my prior application selection. This one, I put a paragraph in which mentioned the importance of my proposal to the subject. I also added a comment on my prior selection two years in a row as an alternate, and my unwavering commitment to achieving a Fulbright etc..

Anyone hitting a wall with their proposals ? Turned mine in a week ago. The Scholar program is due Aug 1..We will see

Well submitted Fulbright Scholar application today. It was due Aug 1, but had it from last year. I was selected as an alternate last year. We shall see!!!!!!

Hi everyone! I'm applying for the Fulbright ETA to Georgia, and I was wondering if anyone could answer my questions about supplementary projects. I want to get a feel for what would be more desirable from an applicant. My two ideas are 1) try to establish a sort of model UN at the university I'll be teaching in, or 2) help out on a youth basketball team or run an open gym for girls basketball. They're completely different ideas so I was wondering if anyone had some advice for me! Thanks! Me: I would stick with the academic side Model UN. I think it illuminates the Fulbright process more. Now the other idea is good too, but maybe suited for another grant. My opinion.

Yah, my deadline is Aug 1... i am just about done, adding a bit, and re-submitting. We will see, I strategically, placed in the prior application my selection as an alternate. Also in the interview, I will discuss it. Really nothing to lose, the person who received it last year, claimed all this practical experience and in reality, it was an academic who did a bit of research. I'm younger then that, but my practical background supersedes any academic. That, coupled with my pursuit of a PH.D, I would of thought, bumped me in the driver seat. We will see this year.

you know I would take into account all areas and potential security risk. An area with a high level of threat, could be off the table. Hate to see one apply and then see it all go to waste.

Have you decided where you going to re apply?
-
Well if you read up on Fulbright they are fond of those who are tenacious. I spoke to them after making alternate twice in a row. They had told me, it would be good to mention it. I think you add it in a phrase like "I believe so strongly in the proposal and it;s vital need to (subject matter) that this is my second time applying, Last year i was selected as an alternate".. I don't think you write more than that. I don't think you need to harp on it. If they see it, great!!!!!!

if you are looking into the scholar program, it is much tougher then the ETA.. I have applied twice the last two years and each time been designated an Alternate. The biggest difference is the number of grants drops considerably from ETA to Scholar. Also, the background and experience of the average scholar applicant is on average at least a Masters with 5 to 10 years of work experience. With that said, if you decide to try then ensure a quality topic, and try and see if it has recently been done in the country you are applying for. This seems to be one of the biggest things. With that, any questions beyond this feel free to ask away

Through the ETA or Scholar program..
-
Oh congrats, I got it all mixed up
-
i'm sorry for being to vague. Fulbright has the Student Fulbright (ETA) or the Fulbright Scholar program where professionals or those who have been working for at least 5 years apply. I was ascertaining which one
-
Well I hope to see you apply again. I hope things go well for you this year
-
Interesting statement from Fulbright when I had spoke to them. If you were selected as an Alternate, then for the most part it wasn't your project. I would have it re read a few times tweek a few sentences and such and re submit. We'll see, I have been selected as an alternate twice in a row.. so maybe my way isn't the best..lol. I applied under scholar award and am fighting for one grant, maybe two max.. so it's a bit more difficult.
-
Are you applying under Scholar or for the ETA?
-
Via the Fulbright program or just applying.
-
You know I would add in somewhere how this your third time applying, well i would have to see your proposal to give you exact advice, but look for little difference you could switch around, maybe juggle the words a bit.. That's would really be it and re-submit..That's all I will do. I will put in the beginning how I am tenacious in my pursuit of a Fulbright as the last two years I have been short listed for an interview and selected each time as an alternate. I want the reviewers to see it. The first paragraph is best suited for that. Who know how far they read. Of course in thinking, they could be like, ahhh twice and no select as primary.. ahhh no more short list.. so im thinking either in the front or in the end, and ram it home in the interview. Any advice on where to put it? I put that to the forum

The Fulbright process is an odd one, I have applied the past two years under the scholar program (been working 5 years past graduate school) and have been selected twice as an alternate. Last year, I looked at the proposal selected (they only selected one) and it was a basic idea, nothing too impressive. I spoke with Fulbright and here is what I was told. You could have the best idea, the most thorough proposal, but in the end it comes to fresh idea much of the time. The proposal selected last year had not been done ever, thus it was selected. My proposal idea (intelligence) was done is another form two years prior. Though, they said if your proposal is making it this far, it reads well. Resubmit with a tweek here and there. One thing they told me, is to make mention if this being your 3rd time applying, as Fulbright is big on tenacity and determination.
-
Well here we go again!!!!!! two years in a row, selected as an alternate for a Fulbright Scholar.. I will resubmit exactly as last year, but will add a line how this is my third time applying and two previous years I was selected as an alternate. Scholar is tough, they select one, maybe two.. so we'll see this year.

For those interested, the young professional program for the United Nations test will be December 2015..Great program to look into. I was an alternate two years in a row for a Fulbright Scholar grant..Different then the ETA, as I've been working for past 5 years after graduate school. I am fighting for 1 grant, so it's little harder. Anyhow, I'm a bit irritated, but oh well!!!!! things work out in the end. I was just offered a job with the UN in Vienna. Thus, I am leaving the US in a month to start.. Great job, with the locality pay, 95,000 euros a year to start.. Anyways, I will try one more year for the Fulbright, but I will do it in conjunction with my job, and teach at a University in Vienna.. I did not go through the YPP program, but I see it as I have progressed through this process.
-
Thanks... also the problem is, or the hard thing is, under the scholar program I am fighting for one grant with over 150 submitting.. So, lets hope for the "P" or a refusal on the primary..lol fingers crossed..best of luck to all
