Yah very different. Last year, they asked very little about my project, more personal questions
-
If its any consolation, last year I felt about 70% after the interview and was selected as an alternate. So not sure, but many people felt uneasy after that interview.. You are not alone
-
Applied under research scholar and was recommended..Here is a tad bit of the email letter: "It is a pleasure to inform you that the peer review process, organized by IIE’s Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES), has been completed and that you are among those recommended for a Fulbright award in United Kingdom"
-
John I was a bit nervous when I saw your post. As I applied under the Research Scholar in the UK. But today I got my letter recommending me. I was selected as an alternate last year. I tweaked my project very little and here i am again. Last year I was interviewed, and essentially the two selects we were both not funded and were labeled alternates. Fulbright told me the grant section states up to two grants, so its means 0, 1, or 2. I guess it was 0.. Anyhow, I have one more review to see if I get an interview. I suppose you go straight to the interview. Every region must be different. Let me know if you have any questions.. I will try to help you

Share the same thoughts.. Good luck!!!! Spain competitive country it works out!!!!!!!! I am a professional so trying the scholar thing.. ; been out of graduate school for a few years, so well see. Been tio Spain many a times so enjoy if you get it.

you turn it in by Aug 1...or you under another deadline

I read part of your blog, congrats to you not only your accomplishments, but doing it with the adversity you had. You could of easily allowed the problems to disintegrate you into a dismal spiral, but you did not. I applied last year under the Research Scholar award, as i'm a working professional. I was selected only to find out they didn't fund it. They were only funding two grants.. There was a catch all phrase, "We will fund up to two grants" Fulbright told me that meant 0, 1, or 2. i guess zero in the category this year. I am trying again. But I am happy for you, given your adversity and the ways you achieved this goal, tells me you will make the make the most of your opportunities. you will succeed far beyond the silver spoon recipient. Good luck!!!!!!.

Submitted the Fulbright Scholar award Fingers crossed was an alternate last year, Though both me and the one selected as a principal were not funded.. The language on the bottom reads "up to two grant" which means 0, 1, or 2..This year it was ZERO!!!!!!!

Here we go again, July 31st deadline for Scholar award.. Alternate last year to UK.. Selected two grants one principal and one alternate. Neither of us ended up getting funding.. Strange!!!! Wrapping it up now..I apply under scholar award cause I've been in professional world for 5 years..

To add, I would only cite this until you get selected and then of course delete and put your selected one instead and remove Alterate

I would on a CV have a section for Awards/Scholarship: Fulbright Scholar Award (Alternate, 2014). Project: ????????????????????????? country : France There is an illusion in those words. It shows you were selected and many times the eyes of the reviewer keep moving. Hence, we put alternate after the main words associated with the award.

I was going to the UK.. Very competitive.. i remember your lawyer background if I'm correct. The time spent in the country would hinder you, unless you don't make mention of it. What type of research are you looking at doing?
-
Well thanks.. good luck to you.. you going to try France again?
-
good luck this go around. we are in it again. I was selected as an alternate..funny I was promoted to an award to only have it taken away. They cited lack of funding error. Anyhow, will try it again.
-
Okay, well good luck.. For me to add insult to injury they selected me as an alternate, told me two weeks later I was selected and recently ripped it away from me stating the funding was not funneled through as they thought. Again, I was going after max two grants. Anyhow, I called Fulbright and they praised my project, and told me to resubmit. My only thought is,different reviewer maybe different outcome for the worse.. We'll see, but I have to try again..i'm addicted..lol ..Well you could always look at doctorate programs in France or maybe even a part time lecture position at an English speaking university. I may make the move there (Europe) next year. so we'll see.
-
Are you applying next year?
-
Yah buddy!!!1 I was psyched and ready to go. Well I am hoping all goes well this year. We'll see. My topic is good so fingers crossed on this one.

Hey everybody, I recognize a few from 2014/2015.. I applied last year for one grant. I am a professional so I applied under the Research Scholar award which is a bit different than the ETA and such. I was narrowed down to the interview and was selected as an alternate, then was told in April I was selected and to pack. Then two weeks later I was told both of the selectees would not be funded. What a roller coaster.. Research is difficult cause they only select one, maybe two at most and with 300 applications it gets competitive. I adjusted my project, though Fulbright told me the project was great. The thing I learned and I hope it helps those who are going to apply is: "Fulbright told me they select a project mainly on the length of time it has been for that type of topic. So even if your project is flawless, if your topic was recently done you have a less chance of getting selected." My two cents, "Spainbound" I remember you from last year, good luck to you. Are you doing research, not ETA right?

Question: Fulbright Schuman award. Harder to get than most? Pays a bit better, but they only take two.. Anybody with any advice.. They tend to take a wide range of people so thought maybe with a few years professional experience, maybe i would have a shot. Thoughts

Well applied for Research Award under the professional grant. Notified in second week on February I was an alternate as i was number two and they funded one, not two. At that time they stated no funding for two.. Well something fell through the cracks as funding came through and I am now selected for UK. So I was an alternate for almost two months.. See it can happen.. Next time i should of gone for grants where there are 5 or 6 selected. Trying for one or two is hard..
-
Did you apply Research Scholar, or Student research?
-
Interesting as I was selected as an Alternate to the UK on a Research award. For me I was competing for one grant and maybe two. Per Fulbright neither of us were funded as money was not funded for this specific grant. They expect maybe June, and if so, I will get the nod, according to them. The selection process is odd, as you could be studying one thing and someone else who is studying something entirely different could get the principal selection. Really has nothing to do with what or how you wrote it, as alternates were technically selected. Sometimes they look at year or two prior and see they had many people or a few studying what you may have applied for.. Thus, you would not be selected, as they are looking for something different. I prepared a project on security and they selected a project on leadership. So two completely different things. I had three letters of support from UK Govt., and the project selected had one from a small university. So sometimes I'm not too sure the best project or paper gets selected. I think it has to do with timing of project and how recent was it last done. If your an alternate I would slightly adjust your proposal and resubmit.
-
Interesting, they called me, they being Fulbright telling me the grant I applied for, was one of 5 which were not funded at all. ..Hence if they get funds for it, I will get it.. I wish they would fo told me that before I applied..
-
Folks, Full Research Scholar due to being a professional for five years, selected as alternate to UK. They only funded one grant, was suppose to be two, I was #2...lol well if funding opens up they told me I would get one. Worker at Fulbright told me to reapply, anyways we'll see. good luck to all

The Scholar award interviews for the UK were just completed Jan 31st, so the student awards or ETA's will be next. They are wrapping up notifications for the Scholar awards, then I imagine the student awards will be next. I was short listed and had my interview already.
