  1. Well last year scholar notification was Feb 25th.. the day I was told I was an alternate, so we shall see
  2. Yah mine was the Scholar program. so we'll see. I just have to ponder my thought on how much the interview actually weighs. They are fast, abrupt, and appear like they are a bit disinterested..lol Maybe it was my app..lol They said majority decision is on what has already been written or noted down about your application in the first screening process. Those notes are detailed. I think they already know who is getting selected.. A buddy of mine got it, said he felt about 70 percent after interview. He was selected.. Same thing fast quick and not really taking in your project..
  3. well just had my interview.. Very quick about 12 or so minutes.. My time was later in day UK time,. they sounded like they wanted to get through the interview..lol like they spent a whole day interviewing. They interview for all UK grants.. We'll see.
  4. Yes I think this may work..Thank you
  5. Thank you, I was thinking along those lines, but wanted to bounce it off everyone else in here.. Thanks again
  6. Question to bounce of the forum intellectually stimulating folks. When asked"Tell us about a time you felt out of your element, explain the situation and what you did to overcome it" What is the best answer? Anybody with some good examples
  7. John was in your shoes last year. Selected and then not funded. I became an alternate pending funding which never came. This Friday, but i'm good on language it's in English. Try again,

  9. Hey congrats to all who were recommended, Got an email today short listing me for my interview next week. I applied under Research Scholar, which is a bit different from the ETA.. Was interviewed last year, and eventually was not funded.. So it is the first stage,,Last year i obsessed with checking rent etc, probably my downfall, but could not help it. This year, not even typing the word &&..lol anywhere... If you were not recommended, i a few days the grants come out and it does not hurt to adjust a bit and turn back in. Also condenser one of the bigger countries like Germany!!!!!!
  10. I understand the licensing part and that could be an issue. But like doctors I believe you can challenge the test and given my experience the level of education there in Europe is much more focused then here. Honestly, the quality of life and living is much better there, then here anyhow. If I wasn't so embedded in work I would of moved some time ago. As it is i'm there twice a year, and visit a few extra times. The External PH.D program as of now does not cost in the Netherlands, reason being you are doing your dissertation on your own with own funds etc (library, data bases and so forth). All your doing is gaining a supervisor at the University who for free reviews your work as you go along. In the end you defend your dissertation. As it is now, my dissertation is very relevant to whats going on in the world and I do some lecturing at places all over Europe. So either way i will be spending a a lot of time there when I'm done. Of course I will fork out a nice present for the supervisor when I'm done.
  11. Really consider grad school in Europe. I went to a university in the Netherlands for my Masters, and am now doing an external PH.D program there. I work full time so the External way is the only way I can do it. Essentially, I go there twice a year, more so to teach class related to my subject matter expertise (terrorism) and work on my project with my supervisor. The program is costing me 0$. If you can buckle yourself down and work independently this is the way to get the PH.D. My Fulbright project revolves around my dissertation subject. Anyways, just a thought for all those in here looking at graduate school
  12. Hey how are you!!!!!! Good luck./.. I made first round of recommendations again. so we'll see how this goes.
  13. For ETA's and such Jan 28th or last week toward the Friday at the end of the month. I am doing Research Scholar bid, and was already recommended, but only to the next stage. Not sure if they are interviewing anyone on the scholar end. They did last year, I was selected, but then advised they were not funding the grant I applied for. I essentially became an alternate. My grant stated we will fund up to 2, which meant 0, 1, or 2. Well they funded none. So I re applied.. We will see. If I don't get it his year, I will try the Fulbright Schuman award next year.. We'll see. But between both Scholar and ETA awards, it is very competitive..
  14. nice place, been there a few times.. Mainly Prague. .Here is a link for you if you have not already seen it http://www.earthcam.com/czechrepublic/prague/?cam=grandhotel_str .
  15. It is coming soon!!!!!!!! hang tight!!!!!!!!!! where did you apply?
  16. and the list goes on.. sigh!!!!! I got it too..lol
  17. With regards to the US Scholar program, you will not get the stats online or out of Fulbright personnel. Very hush hush about it. Some countries have interviews and some do not. UK is competitive so many apps, few first round selections and fewer grantees. Other places may be very different as John points out. Germany and Austria have many awards and tend not to have as many applications as the UK. I know this only from forum last year and a few of my colleagues whom applied. and received awards.
  18. Welcome to Fulbright, you get what you get. You are expected to live on that.. I know sounds astonishing, but its the truth
  19. Usually late July or early August
  20. Depends on what country you applied for. UK is very competitive so the rate is high for first round denials to move on. UK has the first round, then a short list, which is followed by an interview. Some countries and I am not sure which ones, as I can only speak from things I've read about the various sites. Have no interview and you are selected and then final selection and your in.. Give me an idea of what country you are looking at and what program?
  21. Well John and I applied under the research scholar program which had an Aug 1 deadline and between Oct and Dec they notified of first round selections.. For UK I still have another round to see if I am short listed for an interview in early January.. I think your program may be a bit different..
