I did have to pay for many of my applications, but about half of them were free. My professors advised me to apply to at least 10 programs, so I applied to a few "reach" schools, a few "ideal" schools, and a few "safety" schools. I didn't contact any POIs before applying, but all of the programs I applied to involve doing rotations in different labs before deciding on a mentor, so it wasn't necessary.

Applied to 11 neuroscience programs. Got 4 interview invites in December and 2 rejections in January (so far). I still have to hear from 2 programs that had application dates in December, but the remainder of my apps were due on January 15th (even though I submitted them with the rest of my apps). The wait continues...
-
Sounds like it, but have they sent out any rejections yet? It could be that this is their "first wave" of interviews and they have yet to determine who the "second wave" of interviewees will be.

Both are important, but they are trying to impress you as much as you are trying to impress them!
-
It means you are most likely in, as long as you don't raise any red flags when they meet you in person!

This. And this, but I'm not really that jealous of them. All of their jobs sound boring, honestly. -
Congrats, LMac!

I'm a little overwhelmed. Haha. Trying to keep track of who does what and think of some decent questions/answers...

You already have an interview, so your odds are good! They said they only let in 20% of ALL applicants, including the ones they don't interview, correct? So, don't worry! Just do your best!

@ak1921 Somebody on the 2013 Biosciences thread said that UNC Chapel Hill BBSP will be reviewing apps until the end of January.
-
Oh, good! I am doubtful that I will get one either (apparently they got ~1400 apps), but we will just have to wait and see!
-
I got my invitation from Vanderbilt IGP on December 5th. I know that they send out invitations in multiple waves, though, possibly depending on what your field of interest is, so yours might come later! Good luck!
-
My first interview is this week as well. I am very nervous. I am so jealous!!!
-
Ask your second choice if you can reschedule. If not, bite the bullet (just go to your first choice).
-
Yeah, perhaps POIs or different areas of interest contact people differently. Or perhaps they tried to call, couldn't reach the person, so then e-mailed them. Or maybe they just don't call international applicants.
-
I think it just depends on the program and how they prefer to handle things. Out of my four interview invites, two called me and two e-mailed me.
-
Any idea whether or not they are finish sending out the interview invites? Good luck, everyone!
-
Thanks! Are you going to all 8 of your interviews? I can see how that could be stressful! Just let your professors know now; I'm sure they will understand and not count it against you. My interviews require me to leave Thursday, except for one which requires me to leave on Wednesday, but for those that require me to leave on Thursday, I was planning on leaving after all of my classes for the day.

Current undergrad here! I am a little nervous about missing classes, but fortunately I only have one class on Fridays. My first interview is next Friday, then the three following Fridays (as of now).

Rejected from WashU. . Oh well!
-
Sorry to hear that you got the same news! But we will both be fine.
-
One missed call from "unknown," zero new voicemails. Agh!!!
-
Same... Hm... Looks like you applied to University of Washington - Seattle, not WashU.
