Hi all, I'm wondering if anyone has an details from previous interviews/acceptance or students on the funding situation at Suffolk. I remember seeing in the depths of the results search that some people mentioned the funding is not "ideal" or complete. I received an interview so I'm wondering what I'm getting myself into. Any info appreciated!

Clinical Neuropsychology 2016 Applications

Hi! I'm a Neuropsych/Neuroimaging person applying to Clinical Psychology PhD programs. I found it weird applying because there weren't so many programs with a NP minor or track that I thought were at "good" schools. I pretty much went off the DIV 40 website listings and applied: Northwestern UCSD/SDSU Boston University (NP faculty, not track) CUNY queens Fordham Yeshiva Suffolk University UConn UMASS Amherst U of Florida I started apps at U of Utah and Washington state, but couldn't really find a faculty member that fit, so didn't complete. I'll be interested to know who hears back and from what faculty! -
Hi Dani not sure what sub-speciality you're looking for, but I ended up getting two 2 year paid research jobs through the medical centers in Boston and New york. specifically Massachusetts general hospital and NYU hospitals both have job listings websites, so do mt sinai and columbia for that matter. However, when I used this method I probably only got one response for every 50 applications I submitted so don't lose hope. You will get a LOT further if you find a specific lab, through the faculty listings at a school and email the PI or the lab manager with your CV and a cover letter asking if they have RA or coordinator positions open. For example for NYU psych you can look at this faculty interests page: http://psych.nyu.edu/faculty/ I had much more success this way, often they know they're going to have an opening in say, 6 months, and will immediately remember you e-mailed. This way your CV isn't just one of hundreds applying. GOOD LUCK

Lesbian life in various places (recommendations? warnings?)

All of boston, cambridge, JP, somerville and brookline <3 -
I've been cutting down my SOP for NYU but cannot for the life of me get it under two pages. How serious are these guidelines? Anyone submit one longer than two pages and still have success? this is pulled from the application: STATEMENT OF PURPOSE Please describe briefly and concisely your past and present work as it relates to your intended field of study, your educational objectives at NYU, and your career plans. In addition, please include your reasons for choosing your field of study. The statement should be concisely written and should not exceed one to two double-spaced pages.

Thanks! thats a great idea. If I remember correctly, are you enrolled at BC's MA program? If you don't mind me asking, how do you like it? Do you know how graduates from that program fare? I don't really want to stay in Boston, but the BC program seems to genuinely care about individual student's success and training way more than NYU's 150 MA students at any given time. Its refreshing, and honesty, tempting.

Hi All, after endless scouring and grilling of their student/program representatives, I can't get a straight answer about how many/where NYU's MA graduates end up for Phd programs. Does anyone have any first hand or peripheral knowledge of this? are we talking 60% or 97%? purdue and depaul or columbia and upenn? I'm just trying to make the most completely informed decision possible. ANY insight would be appreciated!

Job prospects for an MA in General/Experimental Psychology?
didion10 replied to rockandroll's topic in Jobs
If you're really in boston, you can google "The Martinos Center", its kind of off the craigslist grid for jobs, but its the best brain/psychology/pyschiatry imaging center in the country. Its run by MIT, HMS, and MGH. There are RA jobs posted there and you can also email invididual PIs. Since we're not AT a school they don't get flooded by undergrads looking for resume gloss, its much more accessable. State your research interests and ask if they have funding for full or part time work. some of it will be lab work, but they always need people to give talks, etc. Even try to intern. This center is world-renowned and most of our RAs get into harvard, MIT, BU, Tufts, etc. Its the best PhD prep you can do, but you have to work hard. -
Masters GPA vs. Bachelor's GPA. How does it work when applying for PhD?
didion10 replied to soc1's topic in Sociology Forum
I would like to know this as well. Hope someone can help. -
Hi all, I'm new, I'm applying to MA programs some for the summer, some for the fall. and I'm hoping to get some advice from recent grads or recent applicants. I know, I know, everyone says why not just go for the PhD.....Well, mostly money is just not an issue and I'm still unsure as my my direction. IE: i want to be able to take some philosophy of mind courses, and move around a bit. I graduated from smith college a few years ago and have been working in neuro-imaging research since, I will probably have my name on a paper or two by the time I'm done with this job. My GRE's were 167/155 (i'm so bad at math). Here is where I need some advice, in terms on terminal MA, the options are so limited. NYU, BU, Penn...brandeis?? I hear NYU's MA is only decent and thats the most prestigious name on the list. I'm wondering if I'm missing any important programs on the east coast? Has anyone been to one of these programs? Where else did you apply? I'm really looking for a program with a rigorous curriculum, I want to work hard, have professors who care, and be able to go somewhere like Brown for my PhD after. Any advice, even small, is appreciated. I'm a bit swamped in the process. -E
