  1. Really awesome stuff. I just wish there was more. So, that's my only negative criticism-- show me more. Also, more background info. on the pieces (like how they relate to your statement--not saying you have to give a dissertation on them, but a little info. would be nice) I love that they are post-media and conceptually driven.
  2. 10% is not bad actually. Way better than Carnegie Mellon's 1%! So, that gives me a little hope. thanks
  3. wow, yeah, I've NEVER EVER seen ANY artist, art critic, art historian (okay, maybe one, but he was like 67) in a regular suit in my entire life-- not in New York, not in Europe, not in Mexico, not anywhere in any gallery or any setting. Still though, if it was a very "artsy" suit (not a traditional "business" suit.) Then MAYBE. Check this one out: Andy Warhol and Mick Jagger in "suits". If I was a guy, I would wear either of these in an interview! LOL http://www.whokilledbambi.co.uk/public/2012/03/andy-warhol_and_mick-jagger-550x423.jpg
  4. I applied to Hunter too, but for painting. I have no clue of what my chances are though.
  5. Erika is by far the BEST professor I've had. All the professors there are pretty excellent. For me, the situation is that I am from this town and spent 2/3 of my life here, so I kindof want to go somewhere else just for a change (it is a really cool town though) but the bigger reason is that for my husband's line of work, there is not a lot here to offer him. Also, I do think it is better to go somewhere else for Graduate school, to get opinions from different people and be more challenged by a different environment etc. I do love WVU though, my only complaint about my entire experience is that the PRT breaks down when you most need to get somewhere. (oh, and the time I couldn't find a place to park for class because of a Wiz Khalifa concert).
  6. I've been too busy to think of a backup plan. I wish I was applying to more schools, but I'm so broke right now, and have 3 kids, so.....
  7. wow. If your "backup plan" is a Fellowship, then you're in good shape!
  8. Where are you applying?
  9. thanks. no, there are no transfers on the tumblr. Some of them have collage elements (in the painting you mentioned, the "body parts" are from an old Gray's anatomy book) I'm applying to Hunter, CMU and Ohio University. I know I'm not getting into CMU, but I thought I'd at least try (haha) Hunter, prob. not either (except one of their profs. is really into collage so I don't know if that would help at all) Ohio is probably my only chance so I hope they at least accept me. If not, I guess I re-apply to Target. : ( The stuff on Tumblr is not what I submitted to the schools, although a few of them are. I just don't have anything else but those online right now. peace
  10. ArsenicYellow, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your work! It's disgustingly beautiful, very real, carnal, spiritual. The way that I respond to it is that it visually describes the bodily experience of being a woman. There is the awkwardness, the fear, the pain, and of the obsessive-compulsiveness we often feel over certain aspects of our bodies--either to conceal or expose or to mutilate or "enhance". I'm not saying men don't experience any of these things, but I'm a woman so I only have my perspective. Anyway, I think your work is great, both aesthetically and conceptually. I'm sure you will pretty much have your choice of what school you can attend (except maybe for super-traditional schools- if any still exist). I do have one question though-- you said it took 7 years to complete grad school? So you already went and you are seeking another degree, or did you mean undergrad? Just wondering. peace
  11. I think you should do it only if you REALLY REALLY dream of going there. In that case, you would have more regret never knowing if you could have been accepted. I applied to Carnegie Mellon and I think they are even more selective, but since it is my perfect choice, I would rather try and be rejected than spend the next few years wondering. Does that make sense?
  12. Now I know why this is called "freak out forum"! I just finished applying to 3 schools. ONLY 3, so I am freaking out big time. CMU Ohio U Hunter CUNY Random, yes. I need moral support!
  13. hello I'm finishing my last semester BFA(painting) at West Virginia University. I have 3 young daughters, so I understand that aspect, and this town definitely IS family friendly. I don't know what the percentage is, but as far as I know most or all of the MFA painting students do teach classes here, so you could get teaching experience. Also, the out of state tuition is very low. I don't know about scholarships for MFA, but I had a full tuition waver, so they definitely have funding. It really is a great town though. A lot of people that go to school here end up staying. There are also 2 huge hospitals and tons of Doctors etc. here even though it is a pretty small town so if you or your kids get sick, there are doctors and clinics everywhere. The cost of living is also really low. I live in a 3 bedroom apt. that is only 750/month including all the utilities. The Painting Profs. are excellent also. Two you should look up are Naijun Zhang and Erika Osborne. I'm not quite sure what you mean by "reputation" (within academia, with the outside art 'world' or just in general). It really depends on WHERE you want to teach afterwards. If you want to teach at an Ivy league college or a place like Carnegie Mellon, then probably none of those you listed would work. But if you want to teach at a state University type place (like the ones you listed) then all of them are probably good.
