I have no idea about authors, but for artists, do you know Tamara Tucker?

he says, "I'm from the future. Can please tell me where I can get a Slushie? .....and by the way, global warming really picks up about 20 years from now so be ready." -
Wow, yeah that's different. I know that some schools put a huge emphasis on Art History and Theory. Hunter CUNY actually wanted a list of all the art history classes taken and those currently enrolled in. Do you have anything from any theory or history classes? If not, I have a suggestion for you. Why don't you go to an exhibition close to you that interests you (or maybe that you detest?) and write a review of it. Just a few pages, maybe 800-1000 words. Take photos as well (if you are allowed to). If you did this on your own and not for a class, it would seem all the more impressive (in my opinion). At the same time, I wonder if this school is really a good fit for you if you don't like writing about art? They may put a lot of emphasis on this since they are requesting a writing sample. I used to hate writing about art, but after being forced to do it a lot, I started to enjoy it. Maybe that could happen to you as well? Also, writing about other artists can help you understand your own art. Just a thought.

Oh gosh, what a relief. Seriously, I was worried because I try to follow art theory, contemporary writers etc. and I just felt like so out of it if it was meant to be "abstration". thank you. In that case, I LOVE what you said!.
-
michaelwebster, did you mean "abstraction" or is "abstration" an art word that I haven't heard of yet? Just wondering bc I'm always behind the times so...

I agree with Idioteck. As long as you find someone to write your recommendations, you shouldn't worry about that too much. I don't that they even make that much of a difference unless they are either extremely terrible (like the person actually writes negative things about you! or it is written by your mother? haha) or if they are really exceptional, like Abramovic writes u a recommend for Performance. Focus on your work! -
Reversing a rejection with an email? Sending email while waiting?
hwrios replied to dungheap's topic in Waiting it Out
Why not? It's worth a try! You will be famous on here if it works! lol It's not the type of thing i'd expect from mechanical engineering person though. Sounds like something one of my art friends would try. I say totally go for it. It's not going to cost you any money, no one is going to get hurt. Just don't expect a response! LOL -
I love everything! Esp. the "fibers", they are my favorite. good luck with schools!

I was accepted to a school, but my online app. still says "incomplete". If you can see that all your materials are there, then so can they. Another school, who said they only needed unoffical transcripts in the beginning, ,told me that mine was illegible, but if i was chosen for interview that i can just bring an official version with me. ..... in other words, as long as your portfolio went through (and probably your statement) then they probably don't care that much about the rest unless you are chosen as a finalist, and then they would contact you to get what they need. Plus, they are usually way too busy right now to worry about daily updates on their websites. -
sorry, but i've been pregnant 4 times, and i can't think of a single thing they have in common. the stress and problems with applying to grad schools only equal about 1 week worth of the stress of having kids (which continues for 20+ years, not 2-3 years. Most importantly, there is no sex involved in applying to grad schools. (hopefully!!) I'll give you lots of points for creativity though.

Does anyone know any schools that have an emphasis/specialty (whatever you all call it) for international social work or sociology? Or else any programs that have a very progressive and/or experimental (or even radical) approach to social work? I'm trying to help my friend find a school to apply to. thanks!

check their website very carefully. A lot of schools will specifically say they are an affirmative action school. good luck!

OMG!!!!!!!!! I just got an email from Ohio University....accepted!!!!!!!!(painting/drawing) yay!!!! I can't believe it because today i was feeling so crappy and pathetic. They also said they were "extremely impressed" with my application. I don't know if they tell that to everyone, but it sure made my day. They also said I would get another letter in a few weeks with funding info., which I'm really hoping will be good, because on their website they say they have "over 3/4 of a million dollars" for Grad students in the school of art each year. -

Ok. Actually, I didn't know the death star until i looked it up. Also, if "free" isn't so concerned about posting his stuff, then why does his site say, "© All Rights Reserved" ? I never heard of him either, until I looked him up. I don't like his work though, esp. the ones of Obama. hope he keeps that out the east. -

The first image is the second death star from Star Wars. (so unless she is like 50 years old, probably not hers) The second one is by "Free Humanity" who is a man, so probably not. FYI, if you are going to post someone else's work, you should give them credit for it. -

ok, for people that applied to Hunter, I just found two little bits of info. Apparently they had a MFA admissions committee meeting on Feb. 6 and their Calendar says "MFA Admissions Phone Interviews" on March 13. Does that mean they only do phone interviews? I didn't see anything else on the calendar for MFA admissions. -

Last year, Hunter seemed to send out mass rejects around March 2 or 3rd. A lot of people had calls for interviews about 1-2 weeks before that. So, if they are doing things the same the year, hopefully we will find something out in the next couple weeks. -

REALLY PEOPLE?! REALLY?!!?!?! (not you guys) Yeah, so i check the mail, and wow... a big thing from Carnegie Mellon, and one from Pratt! Just graduate catalogs. Thankfully, I was prepared for this, since someone had posted it earlier, plus I didn't apply to Pratt (I don't even remember going on their website). But really, how cruel can they get? I mean, why do they send these out several weeks after the deadlines have passed? Oh well, at least i have some free magazines now. -
what school?

Wow, the website is amazing. Is everything on their yours? I love anthropology. Are you applying to visual arts or anthropology? What time period(s) do you concentrate on, or is it every period, including contemporary? It sounds really exciting, i'm kind of jealous
