  1. This is a thread from May and you replied just to say "I agree"?
  2. I am working on 3 projects right now, 2 of them alone. I'm also the lab manager. Undergrads in my lab are supposed to design their own projects, write a proposal, and carry it out.
  3. Congrats! There is never an "easy" time to have a child. I know 3 women in the grad program at my undergrad that have had or are having children (2 of which were on purpose) during their PhD and they are still on track for graduation. They have the support of their husbands and seemingly have the support of their advisers.
  4. Congrats! I'm trying not to be too wishful. My stats aren't great either.
  5. Some of the schools that I applied to said that you are supposed to send them an updated unofficial transcript at the end of the semester. You should check with your schools.
  6. Application fees for 9 schools: $400 GRE score reports: $125 GRE: $185 Transcripts: $45 = $755 There's probably something else I'm overlooking.
  7. Are you applying for next year? Because a lot of these deadlines have already passed or are about to.
  8. Do you mind if I ask why you applied to 17 schools? You obviously have good qualifications if you already have 5 interviews.
  9. Ahh don't say that. I think all but one of the schools I've applied to have already started sending out invites, and I'm scared to check my email.
  10. UNC BBSP posted on Facebook that they've received a record number of applications this year. Yikes.
  11. When did you submit your application? Weren't they due yesterday?
  12. When invite emails get closer, I'm going to have to stop coming here so I don't freak myself out every time someone else gets an interview invite.
  13. I had the same problem a few days ago and I sent them an email and they took care of it. If you haven't emailed them already, do so now.
  14. Don't worry too much about it. I did several points better on the actual GRE than on the practice.
  15. I've had professors that tell students to write their own letters of rec. They don't blindly sign it; they usually change it at least somewhat. It seems almost expected at my university. Think of how long it would take them to write you a letter from scratch. You are saving them time by giving them a draft.

  17. They don't mail you a score report, you have to check online (in 10-15 days)
  18. It took me about 2 weeks to get mine. And yeah, they didn't change.
  19. I didn't and I'm taking it in about a week...
  20. Started: May 2013 Goal scores: V160 Q160 AW4.5 Practice test scores: 155-160, 153-158 Previous GRE scores: none GRE test date: end of July Materials: Magoosh premium online Planning on taking a practice test this week. My magoosh score estimates are lower than I'd like them to be, but I have been busier this summer than I expected.
  21. I'm trying to put together a list of schools to apply to this coming year, and to me the environment is at least equal in importance with ranking. I've been encouraged by several people to apply to "top schools", but I feel like from what I have heard, those students seem very stressed, don't have a good working environment with their labmates, and generally seem unhappy. How can I find the schools that students seem happiest at? This obviously isn't a factor listed on websites of programs, and is crucial to where I will end up applying. Thanks.
  22. It seems like most of the people on this forum are applying to the same 20 or so schools. Is it because these are the top tier schools? Where can I find out what tier/ranking each school is in? I don't have the best GPA and I would probably get in much easier at a medium-ranked school.
  23. Thanks, TakeruK. That was very helpful. I intend to go into the biomedical sciences.
  24. I'm very shy and quiet and there is really only one professor who knows me. I have a year until I need to apply for grad school, but I'm looking for internships right now, and I don't know who to get a LOR from or how to ask them. Any tips on developing relationships with professors? I really don't like to bother people, and the only reason that I know the one professor is because I do research for him. I really don't have a reason to talk to professors. I do alright in classes and if I had any questions it is expected that I would talk to a TA first. In addition, even though I'm an upperclassmen, most of my classes still have over a hundred people. I'm totally lost here.
