  1. Congratulations to the NYU and UPenn Interviewees! This is the first time I'm seeing a school I applied to pop up on the results page, except for "Other" notes, and now I'm getting very nervous.
  2. I have two interesting job prospects on the table but no acceptances or rejections just yet! I can't even explain my emotions anymore.

  3. Thank you for that informative post, neongolden. It sounds like CUNY acceptances/rejections will be coming later than last year. For Schwartz, I believe that you should not contact the department, especially your POI, about these questions unless you are contacted first. I can't see any positives in contacting your POI at this stage.
  4. I have to re-explain this a million times to people. Even yesterday my father said, "Won't that state school have cheaper tuition?" I am sick of talking about this.
  5. Good question, artman. I was e-mailed by the department email/the faculty host for the event. Is it possible that the faculty host is also your POI and that's why you were e-mailed directly? Gregor, did you apply to the graduate center or just MA programs? I believe the invites were for the doctorate program only.
  6. Did anyone who applied to CUNY Grad Center not get an invite to the CAA breakfast? Also, to those invited, can any of you not attend?
  7. Actually, I noticed less people this year for many months, so as logical as that argument may seem, I'm skeptical. One program told me to "avoid" grad cafe but they didn't mean it would jeopardize anyone's acceptance.
  8. In Order - How many people are employed at places I would like to work who went to this university? - An Advisor who gets my research interests - Do they have connections to museums?/Will I have the opportunity to do curatorial work as a candidate? - School overall ranking - Professor's status - Program ranking - Location/in or close to metropolitan area - Ease of transportation
  9. No interviews, rejections, or acceptances. I'm about to tear my eyeballs out.

It's okay - you should be hearing this month or early next month. I was rejected from one, but I haven't heard from the other four. I did get told that I won't know until March 13th from one of the schools.

Just hold on. It's the worst feeling in the world where people tell you to sit patient and wait. But it's all you really can do.

Got 1 acceptance but must hold out for the others...

  10. In a daze, upon waking, I thought I had an e-mail from Princeton. This is madness.
  11. I e-mailed them back with a simple professional response, along the lines of the above suggestions. Thanks, guys!
  12. A POI e-mailed me basically to just apologize for not answering my initial e-mail from way back when and to let me know they've begun reviewing applications. She then said she'd take a careful look at mine. Does this warrant a reply? I thought we weren't supposed to e-mail them during the decision making process? I'm afraid to reply.
  13. Tangerine, that's awesome! If you do end up getting accepted to an MA program this application round, I would definitely keep this in mind for when you're applying to PhD programs again. You can likely reach out to him early on about application advice. You should also continue to update him bi-annually about your progress (That is, if you do enter an MA program.) I am assuming you won't enter an MA program unless it's funded, so I hope you do get into a PhD program but I would take this as a good sign either way. There are so many things you can do with this, even if you do enter another PhD program, like introducing yourself at a conference and forming an academic connection outside of the program.
  14. Connections really are everything, it's amazing. It feels so good to actually have them for once.

  15. Does anyone know what it's like to start a new job in your field 6-12 months before starting graduate school, not letting them know you applied to graduate school, and then leaving in August/dropping that bomb on them? Please give me advice on this and personal anecdotes.
  16. You're a total idiot and send your official transcript to the wrong department and find out a month later. I'm sure that makes a great impression to the adcom!
  17. Suddenly I can think of at least four schools I didn't apply to which I think I should have applied to. What if I don't get into any of the 9 I did apply to? Would I have gotten into the schools I didn't think to bother with?
  18. No offense was taken, as it is common for the application pool to consist of both those with and without MAs. Also, good luck to you!
  19. I do not have an MA. Good observation 'Schwartz. All programs accept MA students, sometimes even preferring them.
  20. My two languages are French and German and it would be a huge stretch to take any of the languages on the initial list for my concentration. Not to completely kill your theory, I may have received the fellowship invitation because I said I would take all available opportunities if I were to be accepted.
  21. Yes, congrats to the Ohio State admit, UCSD admit, Duke (admit?), Emory Interview, and Michigan Interview! I'm sure many applicants would love to hear updates from all of you.
  22. Can January just end?!

      totally...hurry up February !

  23. I started playing violin again; it's not really helping. I'm also in this weird position where I'm too bull-headed to apply to jobs outside my field, like Whole Foods or something, but can't really apply to any actual jobs in my field because I don't want to be a dick and only work there for a few months because I have no idea what city I'll be in come August. Of course, I'm going to have to figure out something soon because I can't just live off savings from now until then.
  24. "However, if you are interested in studying another language, contact the appropriate Area Center as this list is not exclusive." Hmmm.
  25. I received the same e-mail and I am very curious about it as well.
