I'm first generation as well. Today I found out that my sister-in-law and her husband are moving back to Fort Worth. They relocated due to a promotion about a year ago. When we told my mom the news she said "Hopefully now you can apply to local programs and stay in Texas." I casually told her that this is not how things work (deadlines, etc.). She confidently replied, "There's still time." Ughhh...

Hoping this week brings more movement from UWashington and UNC.

My celebration started with dancing around my apartment with my daughter. Then my wife and I went to our favorite Mexican restaurant for some margaritas.

Lately, I've been having dreams of receiving decision emails from my remaining schools, but for some reason, they don't open when I click on them. Tormented even in my sleep.

Ugh...and I was just about to go check the mail. Guess I'll wait until Sunday.

Keep your head up! Many more to go, and you've still got that Ohio State acceptance to be proud of.

It doesn't seem that way. I got one like an hour after I saw someone on here post a rejection. I have a colleague who hasn't heard anything from Michigan yet.

My wife and I are planning a goodby tour of Texas. Head to Houston/Gulf Coast, San Antonio to visit her family, Austin to visit my family, then back to Fort Worth to find out what things we haven't taken advantage of while we've been here.

I can't believe I forgot this one: "Doesn't School X have a crappy football team? Why do you want to be associated with that crap?" Literally no words... smh

lol I've gotten tired of trying to explain that. Everyone around me doesn't quite understand this whole grad school thing, except the few I know going through the process also.

One that I've heard quite frequently lately regarding the vast majority of places I've applied: "What are you going to do there?!" or the variation "Why would you want to live there?!" That's when my Grumpy Cat face comes out, and I answer "Go to the beach..." and walk away.(Most places I applied are in the Mid West)

I absolutely lost it on the "pyramids"! lol

Same here. I've been nervous about Washington since I saw others were getting interviews and I had yet to hear anything.

I hear that one all the time regarding all of the northern/mid west schools I've applied to. smh

"If you get accepted, you should go to (insert lower ranked school in a large metro area) instead of (higher ranked school in a small college town). I'd much rather take a trip to (large metro area)." Of course! Let me decide my future based on fun vacations for you!

I've been checking the mail daily now that I've seen schools sending acceptances out by mail. Checked today, and there was a large envelope in the mailbox. My heart skipped a beat, and I lost my breath. I pull it out...it was something for my wife... -___-
