  1. Nope. I submitted my application right before the deadline, though, so I obviously don't have priority. I already got into my first choice school, but waiting to hear back is still frustrating, especially when I think of people who are waiting because SFSU is THEIR first choice. I know a lot of people who are having to put down deposits to hold a spot at other campuses they really don't want to go to just in case because they're waiting on a decision from their first choice campus.
  2. I was told by April when I received the confirmation that my application was received...then about a week ago I was told that they would be notifying applicants in May. Not sure what happened, there...
  3. Hm. Well, while I don't believe it's acceptable to mock or ridicule students for their politics by any means, I'm definitely in the mindset that you really can't be in this profession and be Republican in this day and age. Social Work is a profession about justice and equality, especially when it comes to oppressed minorities, yet the current Republican party is all about who is "more deserving" of help and rights. I'm sorry, I fail to see how any social worker who doesn't share the view that HUMAN BEINGS, regardless of race/gender/ethnicity/class, deserve equal rights and privileges can possibly advocate for a diverse population of clients. I just don't feel you can pick and choose who you're going to do your job for and to what extent in this profession and succeed.
  4. I was told by the department I'd hear by April 2013. Not sure exactly what that means, but I've assumed that means some time this month.
  5. I know I'm super late to this, and you've probably heard back already or will soon, but here's my input: Yes, you can get an MSW without a BASW, BUT they really won't even consider you if it's not in a relevant background (e.g. liberal arts, psychology, sociology, human services, etc.), and in those cases especially they want to see social work experience. Personally, I think you were right to apply to the BASW program. As far as experience, at least you have some! Most applicants, in my opinion, have very little experience when they apply for a BASW. I certainly didn't have anything, but I have a strong personal statement and references, and that sometimes trumps GPA. I also screwed up when I started my undergrad career - I spent 2 years in university and left with a 1.48 GPA. A few years later, when I was ready, I returned to community college and had a cumulative GPA of 3.7 when I transferred out. The combination of the two, though, was 2.8, but I still got into the program as they looked more at my recent academics than my past (thankfully). I still barely have a 3.08 cumulative and I'm graduating in May, but I was accepted to 2 of the MSW programs I applied to so far (still waiting on the third)! My major cumulative GPA is a 3.8, as is my university GPA, so that may have been a contributing factor, as well as the personal statement and great LoR. Bottom line, not everybody focuses on GPA! The application is the formality, but the personal statement is where you really have to sell yourself and convince them that they need you in their program! Good luck!
  6. Accepted admission/intent to enroll at CSULB two weeks ago. No idea when I can register, though. The orientation is May 4th, so I'm assuming after that...
  7. Anybody heard from SFSU recently? They said I'd hear back by April, so I assume that will be some time this month. I'm impatient! It's the last school I'm waiting to hear from and I want to know!
  8. Some people got e-mails, others got letters in the mail. There isn't one particular method they use more.
  9. I applied to two state schools - CSULB and SFSU. I was accepted into the program at CSULB December 17. SFSU said I would hear by April.
  10. I'm OAF concentration. I'm still a little nervous about that as I'm not at all interested in geriatrics, but the faculty advisors said if you want to work with the adult population, you want the OAF concentration, so I'm trusting them! I'm planning to apply for the CalSWEC mental health stipend in my second year. You? I have a 3.072 overall GPA (long story about messing up very bad right out of high school), but my university/BASW GPA is 3.833
  11. I applied to two CSU's - CSULB and SFSU. I submitted CSULB's the first week of December and I was admitted a week and a half later. However, a few classmates turned theirs in the following week and still haven't received any word. I think I just picked an excellent time to drop it off. I'm sure they received a lot of applications while out of the office for the holidays, and it's only going to get worse until the deadline as they do receive a lot of applications. SFSU said I would get word in April, but I'm not really worried as CSULB was my first choice anyhow.
  12. I'm late to this as well, but I applied to CSULB, SFSU, and UCF. I doubt I'll hear anything from the latter two any time soon, but I already got accepted to CSULB which was my first choice school, so it doesn't really matter.
  13. I'm pretty late to this, but I agree with everyone's statements about how unorganized and confusing the application process was. I didn't realize that I had to have transcripts submitted with the application until about ten days prior to the deadline when I was about to send it off and I freaked the F out. I ended up having to shell out over $60 on expediting transcripts and overnighting the application to get it in on time because of the confusion, since one of my transcripts had to be picked up from a community college that is 300 miles away and I wasn't going to be in town until the 12th! Their deadline was months before most school's deadlines, yet it took them longer to get the correct documents posted that needed to be completed with the application. I really feel that they should clearly state what they want in the packet. How hard is it to state that you must submit OFFICIAL transcripts to the university AND in the application packet?
