  1. If anyone is attending USC's PASA Preview Day please PM me. Thanks!

  2. Catch up on ALLLLLL the reading, tv shows, movies you've missed. I've been so stressed out I've started munching on everything in site. I had to stop myself the other day. lol...But in all seriousness, think of it this way, if you go back to school you won't have much time for simple pleasures. Go out and do all those things right now. ^Ditto on the advice. I would suggest contacting your undergraduate's career or alumni office for help editing your resume or SOP. They usually have handouts or time slots to go over them with you over the phone.
  3. I'm guessing it's for the PhD program. Because my acceptance letter was linked to the online app.
  4. !! I need to check my email...thanks for letting us know!
  5. Just wanted to update anyone who applied to the "College and University Student Personnel Administration (CUSPA) Master's Concentration in the Program in Higher Education Leadership (PHEL) program at UT Austin"...I received an email from the Program director this morning notifying all applicants that applications are currently under review and we will be notified by early March or decisions. Preview Day will be March 22nd, but for those who decide to attend they will NOT be able to help with transportation or stay. Also, interviews for assistantships can be done via Skype or phone.
  6. Two of my invites said Business/Professional. I would check with each school just to make sure.
  7. Thank you for that JWU....it made me laugh at how absurd this whole process is but, sadly how sucked in I really am. Lol
  8. Woot woot! Congrats EdNerd! I've never been to Chapel Hill but a few people I know say its very pretty. Relish in the excited and pat yourself on the back.
  9. Congrats on the admittance m26! But I'm not much of help with narrowing down the building you're describing.
  10. I applied to their Higher Ed Masters program and the online app system's telling me it's still in committee review.
  11. I know some of us had been talking about wanting to receive packets in the mail from schools we applied. Just wanted to let you know I received a letter from USC...and then to my surprise....BC sent a real package!!! (I got so excited I ripped the damn thing open and ran my hands over the seal ) lol..I know I'm a dork. But it was a GREAT feeling lol. Just wanted to share the small pleasures in my life. Hope you guys receive good news and packages soon too!
  12. Sorry to hear that! But I definitely understand the feeling of relief when you know where you stand with some of these schools. I thought I would be okay by now..But having some schools still pending and knowing I won't find out till March is actually starting to drive me a little nuts lol. Best of luck with the remaining schools!
  13. Charlie3 and suorange03: I heard from USC's PASA program last week on February 7th, with an invitation to Preview Day on Feb. 22nd (which I won't be able to attend because it conflicts with another preview weekend I'm already attending . I was actually surprised to hear anything so soon, as they first couldn't find my app and afterwards couldn't process it (I have no idea how that happens when everything is submitted) and kept emailing me back and forth. Whoever's running the whole thing is a bit disorganized. Hope you guys hear soon!!
  14. J_holtz you are my new hero. You and everyone else are why I want to continue my education and pursue higher education. I am a true believer that scores and GPA can not describe the person, how they learn, nor their abilities/perseverance to succeed. A little bit about myself: I'm first gen, went to a semi-crappy high school, got rejected from almost every undergrad I applied to...but by luck and a lot of communication with the Admissions committee...I was admitted to Tufts after being waitlisted. Oh yea- THIS KID- was one of the few who got admitted my year.... (I received my notification moments before submitting my deposit to a state school). While I struggled to succeed in such a academically competitive place, my peers spoke about how easy and boring some classes were. After all the crap I dealt with...getting sick because of so much stress...not graduating on time...ALMOST not finishing my last paper/thesis. I received my degree in 2012 (2 years later) with a gpa of 3.12. Not below 3.0, but not up to par with "what I'm suppose to have". Needless to say, my GRE isn't stellar either. 150V, 139 Q, and 3W. I didn't have much time to prepare and had a lot of personal things going on. But I've been working in Higher Ed doing work I really can connect with for about a year. This fall I applied to 15 schools; some were reach and others safety schools. SOME HOW....I don't know why or how...I was admitted to the majority of them and have incredible options. I never thought I could say UM and U Penn are my "safety schools" if I don't get into Harvard. Pfffffft! I just want to say..where there's a will, there's a way. If you want it bad enough, YOU WILL make it happen. That means learn to network, navigate the higher ed system and play on your strengths. It can happen. Best of luck everyone on your applications (I know I'm definitely going to need a drink after this whole application/decision process is over)
  15. I believe it depends on the institution and department. I spoke to a current student at TC and he told me the research he's doing was by his own doing. He sought out the people and made it work. The program he's in (MA in Higher Ed) doesn't include research opportunities as a requirement or part of the curriculum. Maybe at the most, research methods. On the other hand, I know some schools I applied to give research opportunities to Masters students if they're interested. It won't be funded or count as a GA as PhD students but at least the opportunity exists. I would email the program or ask current students if it's common or possible for people in their cohort to do research. Is the process informal? Or do you have to apply? Hope that helps! Best of luck.
  16. LMAO...that's a great idea. I didn't want to email them, thinking they might see me as foolish because I don't get how things in "grad school" are done. A friend of mine mentioned she received packages from schools she had been admitted to. Since I haven't received anything close to a letter much less a package, I'm assuming there's packages students receive from programs they're visiting. Does anyone know about these? Or heard about them?
  17. I don't know much about Engineering since I'm in Higher Ed but what I would suggest considering what you want to do with those degrees. Both are great schools but did you ever lean towards one over the other (before you heard back from them)? What career opportunities would one give you versus the other? Also, as someone who graduated in 2010 and took some time off from school before pursuing grad school, I'd seriously advise you to think about the next 5 years. Are you ready to commit to a long process as a PhD? Or would you prefer a MA which might give you flexibility to try different things out professionally before committing to a 5-7 year program. Best of luck! I know any of those two choices will be great.
  18. To the person who got admitted into the STEP program and wrote "Fellowship too. Because, swag?" You made my day lol

  19. Yesssss...I want to feel and see the envelope. In the back of my mind, some of these acceptances just don't feel 'real'. I need to run my hands over the ink and seals. Secretly, I'm desperately waiting for mail from these schools to arrive one of these days... Sigh. At least I can dream about it lol. Why did they have to go paperless for acceptances??!
  20. Is anyone else going through moments of confidence and then extreme self doubt? I just want to get this over with. HGSE just tell me where I stand!! ....it will probably be the last school I hear from and it's driving me crazy.
  21. Not a problem! I'll definitely let you know how it goes.
  22. Anyone freak out today when Stanford sent an email requesting you to fill out a survey? My heart almost skipped a beat when I thought it was a decision...AND then, it was expired when I clicked on it. Grrrr....
  23. Congratulations Loseric!! Are you attending UM's visitation day?
  24. Woot woot! Congrats!! I PM'ed you. Thanks Merrysoprano and EdYouKateOr!! I'm anxiously awaiting HGSE's results as well.
  25. Aw, thanks! I feel very lucky to have options. This wasn't the case as an undergrad. But I know the hard part is coming....making the BIG decision.
