  1. Sorry. I've never heard of it. :?
  2. Hey, don't get me wrong, I LOVED Cornell. I was just pointing out what people who could not stand about the weather complained about.
  3. As I went to school about 45 minutes away from Syracuse, in Ithaca, I can say that it is not the cold that gets people upstate (though the week of -15 when I returned from my first winter break was DAMN cold), it is the bleakness of January-March: wet, cold, gray.
  4. I voted for both federal items (either State Dept or Legislative Branch would suit me fine) and for a think tank. If I could have put down another vote, it would be to run for office, although I would work on the campaign side, not the candidate side, as a way to transition onto the Hill.
  5. I got a thin envelope from American this morning... reminding all applicants to send in their FAFSA forms. Boo-urns.
  6. Oh, Syracuse. I went to Cornell, just down the road in Ithaca. There were two reasons to drive 45 min to visit Syracuse: the airport and the mall. On the plus side, it is suuuuuuper cheap (especially if you're used to living in a major metropolitan area) and, if you are a college sports person, Syracuse is a huge sports school.
  7. Depends what is most important for me. Obviously, the $ issue looms large so we will need to see what comes of scholarships. $: WWS Academic Match: Fletcher Location (fun): LSE Location (practical): GWU (much closer to relevant organizations where I might intern than Georgetown)
  8. It depends. Did you apply for foreign policy or for public policy? PP has heard back (somewhat) and FP has not.
  9. Tell me about it. I am a dem and OFA alum, but I am interested in international relations and conflict resolution, which isn't quite as clear on party lines as certain other issues. I do admit, however, to having somewhat liberal views on the people with whom we should conduct diplomacy, what and when various intervention methods should be used, and so on. Oddly enough, despite my primary interest in these matters, for my policy paper, I wrote about an issue involving trade barriers and agricultural subsidies, because it's what I've been researching and instructing college policy debaters in for the past half a year.
  10. The thing is, when the university budgets are tightened, an easy way to off-set their shortfalls is to accept more students and not offer as much aid.
  11. Dammit IR! I am going out of my mind! Could you please give me some news? I need a response from one school, any school to temporarily sate my appetite. I could have just one response and then wait for two weeks to hear from everyone else and I would be content.
  12. In New York, the law is that you cannot apply for unemployment if you have been accepted to a graduate program. Otherwise, people might just coast from now until August.
  13. Any idea how competitive IR schools are? I would kill to have schools with a 50% acceptance rate. What I know: WWS: 13% Yale: 16.7% LSE: 9.9%
  14. It can happen, but usually it is in a situation where the school feels that you are too good for them and that they should not waste their time making an offer that you will not accept.
  15. Leadership, leadership, leadership! When I met with the HKS admissions people, they more or less said the keys to getting in are 1) Leadership and 2) Public Service.
  16. Where were you with the Obama campaign and in what role? I ran a field office in the Philly suburbs.
  17. Boo people who got Early Notification! I want to know now!
  18. Good news, everyone! I just got word from one of my recs that she has been contacted by my internship's national office. Therefore, I must have passed the final interview round and my interview just needs to make sure I am the genuine article. (Waiting to hear back from internships & grad schools at the same time is excruciating).
  19. Oh, Uggs are not limited to GW. Uggs, sweatpants, and Northface fleeces seemed to be the dress code of at least 15% of the girls at Cornell.
  20. Under. I bet acceptances come the 11th.
  21. So, this is not the document tracker?
